How will the sleep/insomnia/Phantom mechanics be handled when EMC updates to 1.13?

  1. NOTICE: I ONLY POSTED THIS IN THE MISCELLANEOUS SECTION BECAUSE I AM NOT SURE WHAT SECTION IT ACTUALLY BELONGS IN!

    Anyways, back to the question.

I ask because my mom and I are concerned (as we work a lot at night outside of buildings at a public outpost if we're active) with how much sleep we would need to make them not be hostile. I'd rather not have to keep trading for a chain mail armor set and diamond chestplate or constantly be killed at night while working on stuff, but sleeping all night would be pretty hard/boring to do unless I was on forums, playing another game, etc. the WHOLE ten minutes (which would be pretty risky itself).

Another side question related to 1.13: Will it be possible to eggify dolphins? You can collect fish in a bucket, and turtles lay eggs their self, but with dolphins, that isn't the case.

(If you're staff, feel free to move this thread to the section it belongs, taking my notice at the top into consideration, but please delete this bottom paragraph AND the notice if you do that.)

  2. We don't have answers for either of these questions at this time. We're waiting for the actual release from Mojang before jumping into ANY decisions. They've already changed a few things in between snapshots, so we want to get their final decision before making any official plans.

  3. I imagine there will be options via the game rules for the phantoms. Again like Krysyy said, we will have to see. Knowing Minecraft, bugs will be included with this new update to these new mobs

  4. You raise some very good concerns there.. I haven't looked into the phantoms in depth (yet!) but while testing one of the snapshot releases with Aya we did encounter them because Aya never slept, and as a result got attacked multiple times. Even underwater!

To my knowledge so far (also based on some assumptions!) the phantom spawn is based on how many days you haven't slept, but not the amount of time you actually spent in bed (I just wrote this down onto my todo list, I'll (probably) test this out when the next snapshot gets released (the current one constantly crashes on me)). Which means that all you'd have to do is set your spawn point every 3 days (so simply use a bed) in order to prevent those critters from spawning. As far as I know using your bed on EMC (even during the day) already somewhat counts as using a bed (it sets your spawnpoint afterall).

Another option is to ensure that you got a roof (of some sort) over your head. If you don't have a clear look at the night sky then these critters won't spawn. So that could be an option as well.

I'd be surprised if we couldn't. I mean: basically dolphins aren't that much different from polar bears; normally they're passive unless being provoked.
