I am touring around the servers and found a rail system that someone placed some blocks on, thus blocking its use in one spot. It's on SMP5 in the North Outpost area. The signs from the original rail creator invited others to keep the system cleaned up so I tried to remove the blocks but was denied as they are owned by someone. 1) Am I ok to try to fix these kinds of obvious issues in general?, and 2) should I try to contact the owner of the blocks to get them to remove them, or is there another or better way? I imagine this kind of question has been answered before but my searches did not find an answer. Thanks.
I think moderators are glad to help out in such cases. Indeed it's desirable to try to contact the owner of the blocks, but they won't always reply. You cannot remove them yourself, but staff can do it for you. At least that's what I recall from previous threads on similar matters... I don't have personal experience with this!
