[Guide] How to Install Minecraft on Ubuntu

  1. Linux distros are often lightweight and work well on most hardware. I would suggest finding a computer that uses a BIOS, as trying to install Linux on a computer with a UEFI is a pain (and impossible, in my case). Try to find one with Windows 7 preinstalled as Windows 8 also likes to make the installation of any other operating system.
This computer is nice, and it lacks a touch screen (which to be quite honest is good, you don't need one). http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-17r-5721/pd (see if you could get it with 7).
Also, if you insist on having a Mac-like interface you can install Macbuntu on there after Ubuntu goes up.

Also to anyone else who is considering using Linux as their operating system I suggest using Linux Mint, an Ubuntu based OS that has a more Windows like interface. http://www.linuxmint.com/

  2. Just to clarify, it is possible to install Linux on a Mac, correct?
  3. Should run Linux fine. I'd use a virtual environment personally - like VirtualBox, which is a free virtualization app from Oracle.
  4. thats the simplest way
  5. You could also download java executable for linux, download minecraft for linux, mark the file as executable and run
  6. ...
    One hundred percent done.

  7. Isnt that the easiest way tho lol
  8. Not the fact that it might not worked, more the fact that you bumped a thread that is a year old.
  9. Its a helpful and pinned thread. Does it really matter so much if it was bumped?
