We’ve known about the new strain since September. The panic the British Government is attempting to create over it is a political ploy to make people cancel their Christmas plans after the government changed the rules at the last minute.
It feels like it’s just an attempt to explain away government incompetence over the second wave and their decision to put the south into lockdown a day after saying they’d never do it. I don’t doubt a new strain exists, but I highly doubt it’s as contagious as they’ve been making out for the past 24 hours after knowing about it for 3 whole months.
