L The "good" side is whatever you want it to be. Your family served their country with honor and distinction. Just because people seem to think that they must have been bad people doesn't matter. They were your family. You honor them with all of your heart and spirit and anyone that tells you that you are wrong is wrong.

They are heroes. Maybe not American heroes but they are heroes and I for one thank your family for their service in the armed forces

Not all SS were horrible just like not all Wehrmacht troops were good.

I will not excuse the WW2 ones because the Schutzstaffel and Wehrmacht were awful, awful organisations. But WW1 was a war fought for a greedy aristocratic class who viewed the common man as their plaything, and it was a war fought in the name of imperialism.

Anyone who claims to have an ancestor who fought in the Great War and is on the ‘good’ side is a liar, because both sides were disgusting. A great many of the soldiers were not.
