I hope they release it soon. I have a fresh world from a seed I've known since Summer 2014 where you spawn in a Jungle/Mesa pair within a colossal (like, tens of kilometers long, bigger than I've ever seen before), but according to MineAtlas, I've not been near any oceans in it yet, and I'm trying not to be. This would be great for ocean exploration, as tropical biomes by the ocean = coral reefs!
I'm not sure, but I would think warm oceans would try to spawn near Mesas, Savannas, Deserts, and Jungles, right? I also wonder if the island biome would change according to the ocean temperature (like to have Jungle/Savanna islands instead for warmer oceans, and snowy islands for frozen oceans), but I hope they have something like that to be more realistic.
But then again, I kind of like the temperate islands too, because I love finding flower forests and sunflower plains, especially after kilometers of emptiness. However, temperate islands would still be best in temperate oceans IMO.
I like your thinking We3! Which is why I investigated into this and it seems warm and cold biomes can still co-exist. So that's a bit of a bummer, one doesn't lead up to the other. On the positive side some items can even spawn in previously empty biomes. So.. who knows!
