He's from Alaska, which is a polar place notorious for its cold (except Juneau, which is near temperate rainforests somewhat cooler than the Seattle ones).
I'm fine where I am. Here in Tennessee, the climate is subtropical (so it's generally warm, but can still get modest cold and small amounts of annual snowfall), a wide diversity of plants can grow, and there's even a temperate rainforest in the subtropical parts of the Appalachians. Yet, Autumns and Winters are hard enough on my ability to enjoy life year-round...
...and although palm trees can be grown here, only a few types, and not many people here know that or seem to want to (in fact, I've never seen any in person, although I know they're out there somewhere. I just want to see where eventually). Not to mention that May through early October has high humidity and searing heat (which is a heatstroke risk for almost half the year).
