Somewhere, deep in the land of Empirious Minecraftious, asleep, lies the great beast. The one who controls all. The mighty Icecreamcow. This massive, mythical being is deep in slumber, being fed internet code by Aikar. If exactly 13 hours and 15 minutes past the last 78% waning gibbous moon, he does not get food, the great beast will awake... and wreak havoc over the great land of Empirious Minecraftious. This is Aikar's motivation to keep coding.
Well I have noticed that it decapitalizes even single words- since I can't use Italics in chat, I often will CAPS a word to emphasize it, such as "She did NOT just do that", and now I'm noticing it is literally changing 2/3 of the words I solely capitalize. Is it supposed to do that since it said "sentences" or is it just what the sorcerycoding does? I just read the posts above (didn't see these a minute ago -_-) and now I wonder if this will be a permanent thing. The Single word decapping, not the sentence capping. Agreed, the sentence decapping is great, but there's still the issue of spam fixing. PS: Am I crazy or is it really blocking swears (I accidentally cussed once and it said it couldn't post- thank god).
10/10 the best thing I've read in like. Ages. I'm picturing a giant cow in a suit and glasses rising out of a volcano screaming like a banshee now.
Great work Aikar Maxarias has tied Aikar to his chair with string so he can keep coding and just for fun.. "A man flying in a hot air balloon suddenly realizes he’s lost. He reduces height and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts to get directions, "Excuse me, can you tell me where I am?" The man below says: "Yes. You're in a hot air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field." "You must work in Information Technology," says the balloonist. "I do" replies the man. "How did you know?" "Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but It's of no use to anyone." The man below replies, "You must work in management." "I do," replies the balloonist, "But how'd you know?"* "Well", says the man, "you don’t know where you are or where you’re going, but you expect me to be able to help. You’re in the same position you were before we met, but now it’s my fault."
From the posts, I think the caps sensor is a bit too finicky. Can you make it only trigger if >50% of the characters are uppercase?
In all honesty, there is never a reason for caps. The current trigger seems to be 5 letters. I can talk to aikar about extending that if we deem it necessary, but this also helps cut back on spam since we don't have 3 people saying 'no caps' after every caps abuse.
There are acronyms longer than 5 characters, and many players may want to emphasize a single word of longer length. Something along the lines of 10-12 characters would probably be a better limit that would still catch all the abuse while avoiding almost all the false positives.
Another *c* :o Really though, I don't like the caps change. I mean, sure, you can type like this: "But I was talking about the <i>game</i>, not the <i>anime</i>." But doesn't that look stupid? I think caps is still a decent way of emphasizing things, even if I prefer <i></i>.
I'm really happy to see this happen! I thought it was horrible that certain players were force claiming res's in order to get the item frame drops :/ I also think it's excellent that players are warned about force claiming resetting a res! I had no clue it happened till I did it, and I know other people who have thought the same! :3 Fabulous job Aikar ^_^
I didn't know the item frame drop was a thing, that's scary. But doesn't the auto set res for new players usually overwrite derelict residences before people get to them? Either way, glad that this was fixed. Reading through everything, and discovering the mail (I've not been active in a bit), I'm even more impressed with the staff and the server.
I recommend a trip to the wiki to learn about everything We've been cranking out update after update this year! But about the item frame thing, it was the system that 'clears' the residence that I was talking about. the system would delete the item frames to reset the res to empty, however Minecraft would 'pop' the item in the itemframe out when this happened. And due to various conditions, that item was not removed. It wasn't limited to just force claim, the system derelict that frees up residences for new players uses the same reset process, so you could walk onto an empty res and find items, but not anymore.
Wow! That sounds like an amazing little glitch, and I'm glad it was fixable- I'd hate to have someone come back one day over derelict to find their res gone solely for someone to collect their items. I will check out the wiki again now, there's a whole lot I missed and I just gotta say- udabess. This sounds like a daunting project and I can't wait to see what you do next. (I suggest a free cake day. For reasons.)
LOL I saw that! I was laughing, but felt sad. Herobrine is sort of like the part of MC that was a magical error and d'aww.
Get it? Because our updates look like the Minecraft update list? We don't even have Herobrine? *sigh* I give up.
