  1. Yeah you wouldn't be able to have them connected anymore, in anyway. Bungee = Ugly hacked proxy, but still a proxy. With these changes it means that Utopia has to be it's own server in every way, it can not be connected to or be part of EMCs main servers (SMPs). You would have to disconnect and connect to the Utopia server, which would have no chat connected, vault, separate inventory and everything, even the currency balance would have to be separate.
  2. Stage isn't paid for, so it'd be okay. Yes, they're reconnecting technically, but Mojang are ignoring that fact, and saying "connecting to a server is clicking on the connect button on the multiplayer options scren".

On the other hand... http://www.reddit.com/r/mindcrack/c..._the_minecraft_eula_affecting_servers/ci90plj seems like a good way around the problem.
  3. What counts as a server? Are proxies one big server, or lots of smaller ones?
A server is something a user connects to with their client. The user is on a different server when they leave the one they are connected to and manually join another (in the multiplayer screen). Virtual servers and proxies make no difference here, to the client it’s the same server.

Description from official BungeeCord site, explains it's a proxy:

    What is it?
BungeeCord is a useful software written in-house by the team at SpigotMC. It acts as a proxy between the player's client and the connected Minecraft servers. End-users of Bungee see no difference between it and a normal Minecraft server.
  4. Meaning that a proxy is considered a single server, and the rules have to be shared across it.

Separate proxies allow separate rules in terms of charging/not charging. From the way it's worded, it doesn't matter which servers they proxy to, it's enforced at proxy level.
  5. Right but what I meant by that is that suggestion you linked wouldn't work either. Doesn't matter what IP you start on, if it proxies to the same server it's considered the same server by the new terms.
  6. I strongly disagree with this loop whole.

I know this way will stand; give it a week, and people will be searching for a new solution which would have been better spent coming up with ideas to comply.
  7. Couldn't agree more, just page after page of loopholes, just looking bad at this point.
  8. If they're actually separate proxies, I don't see why it couldn't.

Mojang seem to be saying a server is what you connect to from the multiplayer screen. If I connect to a supporter proxy, then I am paying for access to that server, and therefore I have access to the extra features on it.

If I am connecting to a free proxy, the commands for the paid features simply do not exist. As it's enforced at proxy level, which is what the client connects to (therefore what Mojang is considering a server), they're technically considered separate.

Basically, if they're considering "what your connect to from the multiplayer screen" a server (rather than what a server actually is), their problem that there's ways to use that to your advantage. They can't say "in section 1 a server is ______, but it means something completely different in section 2", really.
  9. Well I think it should be mentioned because this is already going pretty far in a wrong direction. That FAQ doesn't mean a thing, it is simply what they will allow and not allow, it is in no way shape or form connected to the EULA.

In the actual EULA, the written agreement that you agree to, it blatantly says you may not charge for game bonuses or advantages. Even if you find a loophole in their FAQ it doesn't mean a damn, because it isn't what you agreed to, you agreed to not selling anything for real money in-game that effects gameplay. The FAQ is simply a helpful guideline to what they expect people to do, even if you find a loophole in that to sell residence plots for instance, in a court situation you are still screwed, because you agreed to not do so.

Would like to point out that it would also include literally anything, come up with any sort of idea that you can charge for, worthless or not, and it's against their EULA. They are simply allowing us to do certain aspects of it, but at any time can change their mind on it. Even if they are saying XYZ is okay, they can still take you to court for it because it's part of their higher written agreement. The FAQ and other crap is out of contract discussion, it doesn't effect what you have already agreed to.

So either follow the guidelines as they are meant to be, or draw outside the line and see EMC get shutdown and/or sued. There is no point in being shady, they didn't even have to allow any donations at all.

    Their game = their rules.
    PenguinDJ and IcecreamCow like this.
  10. Which means residences must be purchasable for 50 million rupees.
  11. Right. It would have to honor whatever is said of course. And note, that "loophole" isn't saying you can STILL sell perks / residences. It's just a way of saying, "The ones you already sold are okay."
  12. Until SnowyBearr brought it up, I had been waiting for someone to mention the Vault and Utopia. There is also the XP carry-over from the Utopia server that has not been mentioned. They will need to be addressed if premium advantages are truly going to be disconnected.

I think it is going to be very difficult to keep Utopia as a separate premium server and have it and the people using it remain an integral part of the community as it is now. It may finally encourage shops and a separate Utopian economy which could be good on one hand. On the other, the community has always impressed me as a splinter group and I think this is going to make that worse.

I read most of these changes as bad news for the server business-wise. One aspect I don't think they seem to touch and they may even be encouraging is paying for access.

There are times when a Reserved Slot is very desirable. Rather than creating separate areas for people to play or rights to use blocks like TNT based on whether they have paid money or not, perhaps we should all have equal capabilities when we play on any server, even Utopia. Instead of paying for various rights when we play, we could pay for levels of guaranteed access or for a place in line for an event like to enter Dragon Tombs.

Supporters could have varying levels of a guarantee to play there. For example, out of 100 slots, non-Supporters could be eligible for the first 50. Iron the first 60 slots. Gold the first 80, and Diamond all 100 slots. The number of slots don't have to be fixed. Currently, generously Aikar opens up server slots for events. He certainly doesn't have to do that for us.

If Utopia allows TNT but has a small user limit to make up for it, and Supporters have guaranteed slots that take precedence over non-Supporters, guess who will get to use more TNT there? Even Endertopia could work that way. Non-Supporters could maybe use it sometimes, but Supporters would still be likely to get most of the use out of it. And instead of being segregated, we would all be playing together there, or at least have a chance to, which I think is actually better for us as a community.

I often see where people miss server events because there are not enough slots. Once Dragon Tombs is ready I expect there will initially be a lot of people wanting to play. Being able to join my friends when a server is full or being able to jump to the head of the line during an event is going to make me more likely to get out my wallet.
  13. I am just upset about this whole thing! My paranoid side makes me think that Mojang's real reason for this is just to kill off all the servers and try to force people to use their stupid Realms, which I have no interest in using. I like the professional way EMC is run and Realm will just be chaos.

I like EMC the way it is and hate to see it crippled because of bad behavior by other server's. The way I found EMC long ago was because it was recommended on Mojang's website. EMC has always been fair to free and supporter alike.

I just don't see how servers are going to get enough revenue from selling useless pets and cosmetic perks. The other option they give is charging everyone admission which will also hurt EMC because there just aren't enough paying players to make a thriving community. Most people want to play for quite a while before they become supporters, so maybe a free trial would be allowed?
  14. So this is interesting, they just updated the last question in the FAQ to claim this:
Aka if you let people keep the 4 residences they got from Diamond, everyone on the server has to get 4 residences. That makes things a bit sloppy. Figured I'd mention it though.

Edit: Hmm, actually thinking about it now, it's a hell of a lot worse then that. You'd also have to see who has the most vault pages and give everyone that amount of pages -5 for the default ones.

I think currency is exempt from this rule though. I think it's only stuff that would further effect gameplay past the changes. Stuff like residences, Utopia unless it gets disconnected from the main servers, vault tabs and stable space.
  15. It means they have to be able to get it. They can get it with rupees... Just 50 million...
  16. Meh, yeah I guess. It is actually mentioned there that you can give it to them directly or via soft currency. I just think that sounds messed up though lol, but /shrug.
  17. Would it be possible for free members that vote to have access to utopia? just no TNT or flying
  18. Not really, it's either free or paid. The end choice is up to Aikar, but voting isn't really paying for it, so if he goes with the paid option then no one can play there but people who pay or previously paid.
