  1. Believe so, and there was also this other big thing a few years back about modifying digital goods, it was more directed at unlocking iPhones and rooting and such, but then the final ruling was that it is completely allowed to modify and redistribute digital goods, but I can't find that news article anywhere.

If I remember correctly that was also EU though, so if you hosted a server there then honestly Mojang can't touch you in pretty much anyway. At best they could ban your Minecraft account, but then I do believe you would be able to sue them for unlawfully taking away a service that you had paid for. Again even if they added in their EULA that they can terminate your account at any time or any reason (Which it probably does have most virtual websites/products do) that would also not apply to you either because the EULA doesn't mean anything.

So tldr; Host EU sell what you want.
  2. Were holding off on any decisions to change anything for the time being. I am consulting a lawyer as I'm pretty sure Mojang does not have legal grounds to sue anyone (or especially me).

I don't think "you can't make money" would fly in a right to work state if we were to sell "Forum Ranks".

There is also a new thing from Mineplex and other Servers here: http://sterlingplays.com/ Pushing for change.

So, we will see what happens.
  3. For anyone wanting a slightly lighter outlook on the situation:

    :p
  4. Well, from what I understand, they're not likely to "sue" anyone, but more or less cut server access to their authentication servers, which more or less would hurt communities in the same way, just from a different standpoint.

As it is their game/servers, I'm not sure that they have to give any reason to do so either, other than they want to.
  5. As far as I could tell, it seems to be due to the amount of parents contacting Mojang support about cards being stolen for server purchases, and Mojang not wanting to have to deal with the support requests.

At least, that's what many Mojangstas (including Dinnerbone) have implied.

  13. Ah, the annual meeting of ninjas is going well I see.
    *EDIT* -_-
  14. Would you look at that. Mojang doesn't understand English. When you put a "not" before a word, it means the opposite of what the normal meaning would be. For example "I do not support this" means they appose it.

I am seriously wondering if save minecraft makes them think they saved minecraft.
  15. Or Ghost Ninjas.

  16. To be honest, after completely thinking about it this entire time, I do in fact support them. Does it make it more difficult to make money with their game? Of course. However, that's not a bad thing. It will bring back the idea of players supporting the servers financially that they feel deserve their money and not because they have a ton of perks.

If they went back and reverted this decision and allowed everything the way it used to be, I'd support that as well.

At the end of the day, the fact that they made Minecraft at all, gives us server owners ANY chance at all to make some money from it, so we should be grateful and support the decisions they want for their game. A lot of servers up until this point have survived simply on having perks that seem over the top sometimes for money. We're now in a new age for servers where they will TRULY have to work hard and bring something unique that others aren't doing.

While yes, the transition period might be difficult, I think it's best to respect Mojang's decision and in the end, the players will win.

  17. Ok, what I've decided (not that my opinion matters) is that I'm fine with the new rules, but there has to be some kind of grandfathering. What's going to happen to residences and vaults? Is it REALLY better to all of the sudden give everyone four reses?
  18. I don't believe its good for players....there is just no way to make enough money to keep a professional server going with the new strict enforcement of the rules. Mojang is killing the game for most players. Only the single player people will be left. Everyone else will find a new game that supports online community gaming. I hope I'm wrong.
  19. So the residence thing I can see taking some time to work a good system for, but for vault pages we do not have to give the pages to the players. We simply have to make it available. Basically this would be editing the restriction on the amount you can have before requiring a vault voucher to what it currently is for diamond. This is one of our easiest battles at the moment.
  20. I disagree with that. If you know how to properly run a community, you'll be fine in the end. Servers that rely on setting up and hoping their perks sail them through, will have issues though.
