  1. Yeah I guess that is true. I just haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on here, I noticed the donation page has completely changed but the extra residences has been untouched even though that would be in my opinion the biggest game changer here, which is what the new agreement is all about.

I do agree about the servers will need to be more creative, but I am afraid they went to far on it. All great servers start off small or without many features, with the limitations to how servers can make money, they may outgrow what they can host before they can afford to do so. I don't know if that make sense, it was hard to put into words, really tired at the moment and hopefully you get what I mean. :p
  2. I am sad to see Mojang force a one size solution on everyone. I always felt that EMC was set up in a very generous way to free players while still providing good value to supporters.

Now the real challenge will be providing supporters with something of value to supporters when Mojang insists that nothing of value can be provided. It seems like ridiculous restrictions to me designed to kill off the servers that allow minecrafters to meet and play together online. The options for server owners to make enough money to cover their expenses is very small unless they just charge a fee to everyone to access their servers. I don't see a fee for everyone to play working well on EMC.

I think you will have to get very creative to generate revenue. Some ideas that I have which may not be practical are to have specialized servers that people will want to pay to play on. Have a few free ones, but make more than just Utopia for supporters. For instance, maybe you could have a server that was designated for the mature players. Maybe you could have a "hardcore" survival server. Maybe you could have a wild outpost server that allowed teleportation and vaulting in the wild. I have never liked pvp, but it seems very popular so maybe an automated Hunger Games server. Another perk that might help people to want to play on the pay servers, is to allow them to "Move" their residences to these servers, meaning that a full copy of everything they have built is copied onto the res on the new server before it is deleted on the old one. I think instead of each server being basically the same, if you had different perks on different servers it would make them more interesting and appealing.

If the above ideas are not practical or appealing, I understand. Just throwing out some suggestions. Thanks for all the hard work you have done to make EMC a wonderful place to play!

  3. You are STILL allowed to have a monetized server, it just can't have a pay-to-win-system.

I wonder if having the voting system give special ranks/tiers, each with their own perks, would be allowed.

Also, if worst comes to worst, you are allowed ads. Both on the server, and the website
  4. Also, you could make money on the website too, a ridiculous number of people are willing to pay 10 bucks, just so they can have a special prefix, or pay-to-use avatars.

Mojang never said anything about the websites, and even if they did, they can't do much about them.
  5. I still don't get why people are so vehement against veteran rewards when many people play game that have them, for example (which I gave in a previous post) Star Trek Online and FFXIV: ARR.. But others as well, every Cryptic Game which is now owned by Perfect Fail, Inc.. (Its really called Perfect World, Inc.) has a vet system.. Champions, Star Trek and even Neverwinter. I believe that even LOTRO adopted one, as well as games which have vet rewards but not as a monthly thing. Mabinogi gives VIP players random mall items every 24 hours as well as bonus daily quests and events. Maplestory even has a vet rewards of sorts, they give you bonus items if you played the major patch before the last major patch but not playing since should you return as well as a chance of selecting a free premium item should you now have played in so long. Even Everquest2 has a vet rewards system based on account age and not supporter standing like the maplestory instance.. I mean if people want to complain about supporters getting preferential treatment for however long that they have supported which other games obviously do, maybe Aikar can make a vet rewards system based on time in Empire so that the people who don't/won't/can't pay to keep the bills paid won't feel left out. I mean how is it any different from the promos received from voting rewards..?
  6. I think that could be another good idea, make utopia a private server for paying people only, or something along that line, that's pretty much what Utopia is now anyways, you gotta be supporter to claim a res there, but everyone can visit.
  7. /gamerule doTileDrops false

Fixed. Now let's see this change go into place.
  8. That is one of the ideas actually.
  9. Oh, hehe.
  10. Check every other bullet point from that page. :)
  11. Uh... what for? It said that in the article thing.
  12. The rest of that page doesn't just kill pay to win. It kills a decent amount of other stuff too.
    weeh666 and IcecreamCow like this.
  13. A lot of the suggestions you give here are great, but I would also keep in mind the fact that they are very labor intensive. Creating new servers for some of those could possibly mean downsizing existing servers (to save cost) in order to make room for these new exclusive pay only servers. If we just added new servers on top of what's already existing the costs could become too great to allow EMC to function as is.

Either way I cut it and look at the problem is feels like Mojang really needs to adjust the sections about pay players mixing with free players to allow them to mingle, and give greater leniency on what perks can be purchased, especially if they have an effect on server performance.

When Monday comes, which is when Mojang will be posting additional information after feedback, I will be devastated if anything they have already outlined stays the same.
  14. This is what I think Mojang should do:

    1. Put a limit on Pay-for-perk donations:
Mojang is really mad that some servers had packs that were incredibly expensive. Servers had packs that exceeded $1,000 and went up to $10,000 dollars. Parents were mad when kids stole credit cards and asked Mojang for refunds, while it was not their fault. Mojang should put a limit on pay for perks. The limit should be close to 20 bucks or so, because that is not really that big of a deal if a kid pays for that, versus a thousand dollar rank.

    2. Limit all pay-for-perk donations to monthly donations
If servers want to have perks like emc, they should have the $20 dollar limit, but max of $20 per month. A parent can just cancel on paypal and never deal with it again. Like stated above, $20 is not a big deal compared to 1k
    3. Allow perks to affect non-vanilla elements
I agree with their stance on not paying for things like TNT access, but what they should have the rule be is that you can only pay for non-vanilla aspects. This means you would be able to pay for things involving towny, pluggins, currency, and other bonus features.
  15. no
  16. I agree, but think the limit should be higher. I think $50 or so should be max
  17. Why not?
I think that sound better. $20 is somewhat on the low end.
  18. Well I just read the official statements and fine print within the EULA on Minecraftforum.net . Needless to say, Much of the beloved servers we know and play will die and perish. Not saying this for Empire Minecraft but radical change is going to have to happen if we are to survive here as a community. Mojang is obviously power hungry and wants everyone to know it has full control of its game. The 20$ access to Utopia is legal according to their latest changes (hopefully they aren't like "oh and screw what we said before"). Other than that; Making funds to run a server will have to require in game advertisements or anonymous donations (Honestly a server doesn't survive off good samaritans donating money for the heck of it). Unless Empire Minecraft makes a Massive youtube channel and we generate funds that way (is allowed since Mojang states "We do not own Youtube, therefore we cannot challenge Youtube User Content"), A lot less funds will be coming into Empire Minecraft, so what is the next step to generate income for this server to at least keep it running on a standard level of legal acceptance?

As for the idea to completely remove TNT from the Server, I think it should be allowed. Theres always a few bad players but we have Moderators to catch them right? After all, it is their duty. Lets not take a good block away from the good general masses because 1 or 3 players just can't abide the rules.
  19. I don't think TNT is a problem in town or in wastelands. I would hate to see TNT in frontier. There are already enough ways for griefing other people's builds there.
