  1. I would like to see a filter set on player who recently log in to a server. It would work in a way that the chat sent is checked for 90% similarity compared to a chat message sent within the last minute, and if there have been two 90% similar messages, then the chat is denied. That way the player can still advertise, but if they want to not waste their time, they will only visit the busy servers, and leave the quiet servers alone. Unfortunately it would likely hurt a few event holders, but I suspect they are much more likely to dedicate four minutes of their life to notifying people of their event.

What server do you reside on?
  2. So you don't have to deal with them again??? Isn't that the point of ignoring anyone??
  3. It's a GIANT problem for emc, say they let you say your servers ip on emc. If players leave emc for that server emc lose players, players that are thinking of supporting or supporters leave (emc loses money) and tho's players support that server and they all come and spam emc for that server.
  4. Also aikar shouldn't find it to hard to make them not say ip's of servers, I seen other servers block it with the code that makes it not do 2 dots (.) in one word/number (23847.2838.3838) <----like that (not an ip, just example)
  5. Wrong advertising type, this thread is for those hopping through servers mainly advertising auctions and shops.

  7. Not a solution, never will be. It's kind of a ridiculous thing to suggest/post IMO.

Why should I be forced to leave town chat because of a few people from another server spamming me? I want to enjoy town chat, without random people hopping in to advertise.
  8. Wow. Very rude. Shame on you sir. None the less, I shalt make a comeback to your statement.

  9. I am very rude ahah. In general I really dont think its a problem.
  10. This isn't a big problem, in fact most people don't even care about it.
I don't see why your complaining about it. Doesn't effect you, it's not like you have a res number on the last message spot and someone advertises their shop and it's gone.

  11. I agree with everything the OP said. It is annoying and a waste of time!

  12. Alright.
This. I agree with this. I am just enjoying my server SMP4 at the rare time there is no chat and I am building a residence when I see this guy poofs in from SMPwhatever and starts advertising his shop that has 5 items in it or an auction that we just do not give a crap about.
I understand if you are advertising on the server that your SHOP is on but to advertise on other servers is a bit annoying.

plz st0p and buy me diamond supportership

  13. It won't seem like a big deal until you are trying to talk to friends in a group and you get 10 to 20 of these server-hopping advertisers show up within a few minutes of each other and you get 40 to 80 lines of text (log on, 2 lines of text, log off = 4 lines) blasted at you.
What I think NZScruffy is saying is its not the one or two spammers er umm I mean annoying advertisers that come along that are a problem. It is the potential of half the server chat being spam advertising.

Do they have the right to advertise their store - yes (though it pains me to say it)
Do they have the right to make other people upset because they advertise 20 times a day - no

There has to be some balance between the seller's need to annoy us with commercials and the population of the server that does not want to hear it.

Simple solution - don't ever buy anything from those that annoy you. I have a list of every person that has advertised their shop enough to annoy me and I just wont buy from them.

Something needs to be put in place before it becomes like other MMO games where there is non stop spam for selling gold or powerleveling. Remember DiabloIII opening day 90% of the chat was just that.

Best solution - make a special channle called auction or sellers and ONLY let it go on there - and give everyone the ability to block that single channel.

Personally I don't want to hear the spam but others might so as always middle ground is the only good solution.

  14. Yea, exactly that! That is exactly what EMC needs. Problem solved for everyone.... How come I didn't suggest that already?? I must be getting slow in my old age.

Anyway. Thanks bigger hammer for that constructive dissection and solution. Will you post that to the Suggestions Board? or shall I?

  15. Be my guest Scruffy since I would never have thought of doing that if you had not brought up the subjet
  16. Done:
    New chat channel - Trade
  17. Earlier we had someone advertise an Auction thread then someone else posted a web link in addition to what you see below. A couple of nights ago someone logged in and asked if anyone wanted to buy a Beacon if I remember right. Then he started pm'ing everyone in Town to ask the same thing.

  18. I find it amusing to see. It is annoying, and it is a problem, but eventually they learn :p

  19. I agree with OP, should not be allowed, exceptions would be for DP or events that are about to begin, say within 10 min or so, but I would like to bring up that the Empire Guide Rules in a way already include this, guess we need to just start /report and letting the mods handle it.

Per Empire Guide, any unnecessary advertising is not allowed...

    4. Obey The Chat Rules / Do Not Be a Pain in Chat

    • Do not spam
    • Only advertise your shop when necessary. Do not randomly advertise for no reason.

  20. Well, I'll leave my response here as the other thread was locked.
Firstly, we have the name of the rule, "Do Not Be a Pain in Chat" I hardly think they are being a pain and you can't say they are just because you disagree with what they are doing.
Next, "Do not spam" is one message per server honestly spam? How is it honestly any different from a user joining the server, saying something, and then staying? And even if they do leave after saying it, how do you know that they've said it on other servers?
Lastly, if the only reason for them joining the server is to advertise, can it be called random? Random advertising refers to advertising on other threads I'd say.
