death message seems irrelevant, as it has no bearing on the next spawn. As for timer till next, id rather we just keep that secret and tweak as we feel Plus, once it hits the timer, its "chance to spawn" if unlucky, it could take 30 mins more!
Because up until now, EMC hasn't had extra mobs that significantly impact gameplay. Because until recently, we weren't seeing God-Bows / Armor as drops, or potions with crazy effects. There've been unique items in the past, yes. The 60k items, mob arena sword, and EMC fireworks to name a few. They're not "vanilla" either, and I've no beef with them. I don't think anyone's going to complain if they find an ore-buster in their stash. What I do take issue with is what I see as a worrying trend with these new mobs. It's something I've seen before in different context, and the overall impact on those servers was extremely negative in the long run. Short term? Yeah, people had a lot of fun hunting down the new beasties and farming them for cool stuff. Then they got the cool stuff and were bored. So they wanted newer stuff. Cooler stuff. And by the end of it, the game had been mangled beyond recognition because the staff kept trying to keep everyone happy throwing new crap every few weeks and trying to find new ways to challenge players with God+++ Ultimate-Tier armor, etc. It was a train-wreck. Now I trust Aikar and ICC and the rest of the staff enough that I don't think they'll fall into that trap. You'll note I haven't been saying "Bad stuff! Remove it now!" but simply urging that the MMO-style adventure content and Terraria OP-mobs/bosses be shifted to the Wastelands, as that seems to be the best location for them. Wastelands is a hunting / mining ground where people go for materials and adventure - the Frontier by contrast is where people are able to strike out into the wilderness and build their own communities, without worrying that their neighbors will build hideous dirt huts and cobblestone cubes next door. I don't even object if the Enraged Skeletons or Zombies make a very occasional appearance, so long as they're rare. I don't believe that Boss types belong on the Frontier maps at all, but clearly that decision is not mine to make. I think the nether was damned hard enough without packs of flaming dogs - without exploding makes them only slightly less intolerable. Again, not my choice to make. What I do object to, in the strongest possible terms, is people who wonder "why everyone is whining" when they can't be arsed to actually read through the complaints and understand them. What you find fun might not be "fun" for someone else, it's a matter of perspective. So if you reply to this, you damned well better read every word and make an effort to comprehend it.
I agree, you can to a second in NR's streets without seeing...whatever that flaming thing is. I have lost hours worth of mining and gathering supply for houses. The wasteland should be meant for the mutant mobs, the fronted should be a place to build and not worry about flaming zombies popping out of nowhere, PLUS, in the next update, torches wont stay lit...
I understant what you are trying to say, you don't like the changes and you've been repeating yourself a few times now in this thread. The change has happened and (I hope) these changes will not be taken out, yes I agree with you that these change the gameplay of EMC a lot and that it stretches us even farther from vanilla. You talk about god armor and boss drops but you have no problem with the 60k Member god armor? What's the difference other than one was bought and the other you have to work for and if people wish to do that then let them. I don't think that these mobs should be restricted to the wastelands, and should be as rare / common in the wastelands as in the frontier for the reason that- Why would I want to make a base in the wastelands with friends to hunt these mobs and have it reset eventually for an update when I can make it in the frontier with the same chances of the mobs spawning and keep my base with my friends. You do seem to be the minority here in the change, but I can see if more people did not like this change then it should be adjusted, but it seems the majority of players are just fine or satisfied with this "survival update".
Taking away from the frontier would not be fair, it sounds like a solution that would only help people who don't want the new mobs (who are at the moment are in the minority). In the most part it would only make problems for those that do want to go looking for these mobs, even more so if said person lives very far out in the frontier with no hope of getting back to town. And as a side note, every comment of yours has been read, by both the staff and me included (I always read every reply in a thread before I reply to anyone). You may not always get a reply, but it is read, not just so the staff can do their job, i.e "moderate" but also out of personal interest of listening to feedback, (particularly in a thread like this one) because otherwise, how would things get improved?
I love this update. It makes the previously tame wild a little bit more challenging. I think the new mobs should be added to the wastelands and the frontier.
This is the part of that argument I find... silly. There are 9 SMP servers, 10 counting Utopia. Just because a player is absurdly deep in the wild on one server doesn't mean they can't sign on to another and go adventuring. But yes, I do agree that being in the minority of "vocal objectors" puts me at odds with most of the people who want to HUNT ALL THE THINGS! for rare drops. And if I'm being perfectly honest, the Player Heads thing is pretty neat. (I'd like to get one of my gf's head so we can mark which side of the bed belongs to who) I know that, iSmooch said as much in an earlier post and his candor was very much appreciated. That bit was directed at posters like samsimx and bitemenow who don't seem to understand why others might not enjoy this update and just want us to stop complaining*. *yes samsimx, I see your post, thank you for at least taking the time to read through mine. -I don't want the update removed, just restricted. Most parts I don't have an issue with, and there are a couple I genuinely like. -The 60k stuff was limited-time only and is mostly a keepsake or auction item at this point. Marlix is here to stay. That being said, it's leather armor and the godbow is "Final" so eventually if used, they'll wear out. I object to this stuff more on principle because it strikes me as something that belongs in another game entirely, not Minecraft. -Wasteland base vs Frontier: Honestly, I don't have a good answer for you. It's simply the best compromise I can think of, but I know there's people who will want to establish fortifications just as an outpost to hunt the new mobs. I don't even think that's a bad thing, but I do want a solution that will keep Enraged mobs and bosses as minimal as possible in the "old worlds." -I know I'm in the minority, and whatever complaints I may have, I'm sure the staff will weigh my arguments accordingly.
You have your point, but if I were to live far in the wild in some sort of outpost, I would want all those cool items and such to be with me there, not on some other server which I might never go on again. Also, why would I also go to the trouble to adventuring somewhere else when I have perfect setup for exploring on my home server?
i have read through every one of your posts, just because i choose the parts to address does not mean the rest is ignored, and i never said i dont understand why folks dont enjoy it ive seen yours and others talking points and addressed them earlier its quite simple run away (cept from the hounds but i have yet to see one so idk) complaining that it isnt vanilla enough leaves room for comments such as " go play single player for pure vanilla (what others tend to say) " so i felt it should be ignored the rest of your problems were answered by others so i didnt see the need to reiterate.
I don't have a good answer to that one. Wastelands restriction seems like the best solution to me, but it's still flawed. Some people - most people - love the new stuff.
Say I am very far out then I do go to another server and kill a boss. Then what? sell the items I got for rupees I dont need out in the wild? What if I want those items to use at my wild base?
I have a good idea If you don't like the mobs, stay in town! If you want to go to wild / wild outpost suck it up and just enjoy it!
Yesh, i agree ive been looking all day for a stupid boss and i havet seen one in th3 past 48 hours! Bring the stuff back if u dont like the wild stay at town and have fun there! If there gone im gonna keep my oy Marlix item safe
As i said before, the spawn rates are lower than intended. Its due to even more spawn requirements of min distance from player, making it harder to meet eligible spawns. It was not changed due to complaints, we felt the spawns was a little too common than intended, tried to tweak some things, but the tweaks in combination with the spawn radius requirement over did it. It'll be improved soon
One thing Kephras has convinced me of, is that the mobs appearing more in wastelands more commonly than frontier but still being able to spawn in frontier. Since wastelands is meant more for mining / hunting. But also people like darkvilla who want them out at their frontier bases. I think that'd be a decent solution for a start.
