Can protection be removed from all blocks placed by a griefer?

  1. Is it possible to have protection automatically removed from any blocks placed by a griefer?

I'm doing some tidying work out in the frontier on smp7 - just repairing creeper holes and taking down floating tree remnants, replanting etc.

There are old structures all over the place and some have been badly griefed. In almost all cases the original builder left EMC years ago, the griefer was only here for a day or two and also left years ago, it looks like it was never reported or cleaned up but now the griefers blocks have permanent protection.

I'm not sure what the best solution is. I don't feel like it's reasonable to ask staff to tidy it all up. Maybe there is no ideal solution and we just have a frontier littered with old griefed structures? It's a shame that so much of the frontier is now just unused and unusable.
  2. Maybe it's possible that all perm-banned players get their blocks automatically unprotected after a certain amount of days, say 90 or so? Or were these griefers never banned?

  3. I believe senior staff can unprotect blocks on a large scale. I suggest you reach out. :)

  4. If that's the case then maybe that should be standard practice for some griefers - those that only play on EMC for a short time and do nothing but grief and never actually legitimately play or build anything?

  5. I think that is something that cannot be coded or controlled by a computer, as the machine cannot tell between actual blocks and griefed blocks. Since EMC’s main focus is its anti-grief protection, I think it may be somewhat contradictory to let all blocks be unprotected, even after 2/3 years. Hence, it is up to the staff to decide upon and ultimately remove. :)

  6. I do think it is a good suggestion that if someone gets banned after a few days of playing their blocks get unprotected. However, I also recall hearing that this is not feasible. This could be explained by there not being any list of protected blocks per player. Instead, there is probably a list with all protected blocks on it, and by whom they are kept, that can be accessed by block coordinate. To remove all of someone's protected blocks would then require going through all protected blocks to find which ones were protected by that player, which would take way too much time and resources.
Note that I do not know if this is the way it is; but if it is, that's why it's not feasible. ;) chickeneer probably does know.
  7. Would it be possible for them to grant you /trust for that griefer? Then you could remove his blocks. Or put you on his friends list? I believe if you're on someone's friend list, you can remove their blocks. I have the same problem at my base so I was wondering the same.
  8. I know that /modvouch is a command; not sure when it's used though.
