[Suggestion] Connect alts to main account

  1. After discussing this in chat, it seems like a lot of people would benefit if alt accounts were connected to their main account. What do I mean by this? Well:
    • Shared rupee accounts
    • Open your alt's mail without logging onto their account
    • Shared /vault
    • Automatic admin/owner flags on each other's residences
I'm thinking that stuff like supporter perks would still be exclusive to the account that has the supporter (e.g., a supporter who is the main account can't put residence enter/exit messages on an alt who isn't a supporter). This would make a world of difference for me and quite a few other people.
Maybe they could be added by the main account using /alt add <name>, and then the alt would have to agree to a certain list of terms (which, while it would be a bit annoying, would ensure that people aren't baiting other people to steal their stuff).
What does everyone think about this?

  2. I totally agree. This would be way more convenient. Actually, I've thought about this too. I'm guessing a lot of people with alts have had this thought cross their mind. But we never did anything about it...

  3. While I agree, I also disagree. I wish I could add my alt's homes to my home list.

Even if I cannot teleport to ttyler333-5 It'd be nice to do home 5.
Or some Logical command like /alt home 5

  4. yup this is absolutely necessary. just like my 70+ residences. +fadeds

  5. I understand the request. This would be a technically complex issue. But there are also some policy related things that would have to be thought through - before anything could happen.

To resolve a couple of the benefits.
-Automatic admin perms. This would be possible through Empires (persistent group) which can set the empire permission once on a res.
-I could conceive us adding a shared vault to the Empires feature. That is not planned at this time though.
-Residence bookmarks. A long 'wanted' feature is the ability to set your own bookmarks to create an easy command to visit a residence.

Other than the difficulty to implement this. I am not keen on allowing access of mail/rupees/vault to another account. Even if both sides have to agree to the terms. Things would eventually go wrong. And the staff would have no way to do anything about it.

The current implementation of Empire's shared rupees. Is that it can't be transferred between accounts. It is just pledging X amount towards Empire-specific purchases.

Idk, this needs more thought. Right now, I don't see a way to reconcile the policy issues. Meaning, the "should" this be implemented. Because it totally 'can, yet difficult.
  6. Currently each account is it's own entity. While it may be a mild inconvenience, the act of needing to switch accounts to access data on each account individually protects you from issues that arise.

Take for instance accounts that are hacked Mojang side. We've had a few recently and if something like this was implemented, the damage could have been worse. Less traceable actions and increased access across accounts that weren't actually logged into increases risk.

Not to mention policy decision changes would have to change for all punishments that currently apply to only the one account. With the ability to cross-access for rupees, etc there would be limited traceability for staff to handle cases that rely on it. In addition, by you officially stating it is your alt, it then raises the issue of that alt needing to be punished for everything done because it's officially you too. Current rules treat each account separately except in certain cases. But that's because they are all 'unofficial' alts.

These issues do not include the problems that happen when someone uses the feature for something that's not actually a true alt, but just a 'really good friend' because they want the convenience but ignore the risks. There's enough players giving out admin access to their residences and ending up with things stolen as is. Even though it's a big red warning not to do so. Then they come to staff and expect us to do something about it when they gave the griefer the keys to the kingdom. No amount of terms and conditions stop them.

I have to deny this suggestion on the grounds of the complication, as well as the safety risks in comparison to benefits. Chickeneer already mentioned some new features that may alleviate some of the concerns. However, official linking of alts in the manner described in the OP is denied.
