hey all while i was gone i had a few ideas for keeping new players on the server anyone who has been on EMC for awhile has seen a confused player asking in chat about how to get back to their home residence after they went out into the waste/frontier and got lost.these first 2 suggestions relate to that 1, Add a 2nd hologram to this spot on the Wastelands/frontier ramps saying something along the lines of- "Remember! Once you step off this platformyou will be unable to teleporthome!" 2, Add /findhome Command Alias for /compass spawnthis could be especially helpful for younger players where the command does just what it says for anyone who doesn't know a command alias is a command that basically forwards to a different command Examples are commands like /town and /spawn 3, add a youtube video version of the tutorial that runs through everything you need to know as a alternative to the in game walking one the tutorial has been a long debated topic on EMCin order for it to be long enough to contain all the relevant info it get long enough that people don't want to read it all. with a video you just have to watch and listen and you will learn what you need!this would also give the option to include footage from around EMC, events and custom mobs etc in the background to keep people interested (possible video ends with telling you a in game command to signal you finished the video tutorial?) 4, Clarify opening guide.emc.gs in a web browser its fairly common to see a new player in the tutorial type"guide.emc.gs" inside in game chat confusing the URL for a command One day i will master formatting
I had an idea. Not specifically the tutorial though. I always thought it would be cool for when new players got to their res instead of it just being dirt it could be like normal over world with coal and iron and such they could mine when they first get on. That way they could do what they know in a safe environment and kinda make an investment into playing here. Then ease into going out into the waste and wild.
Working on it. Soon, very soon As for the suggestions, I can look into 1 and 4 after the update. I'm not a fan of 3 simply because things are too dynamic to really put in a video format that isn't 10+ mins long.
You have made my day. If you update to 1.15 I think any worries about members will become non existent. I predict a resurgence of EMC to the glory days of years past. I just hope 'soon, very soon' is not 14 months soon or there will be another update.
Does no one check the threads anymore? https://empireminecraft.com/threads/update-misc-bug-fixes-and-dev-update.80822/page-19#post-1544694
1 will be a while. Tried to get it in with the update and wastelands schem that is used to send those out just didn't want to cooperate for an update. 4. I can look at later this week. I'm starting to send out Easter prizes since that's a more timely matter. 4 is really just clarifying for a small group of people, so it comes after Easter.
I think these are all good ideas. New players definitely find it hard to orient themselves on EMC, particularly the younger players. Fortunately we have a friendly and helpful community to guide them, but the server itself could do more. For example, I found these signs in Frontier near spawn from a recent new player. This happens too much
I like the idea of a video to go with the tutorial. Maybe this is something our stream team could do?! I'm thinking its probably not possible, but is there a way to know whether or not the player actually watched the video?
IDEA! In-game video, since players hate clicking links. There's tons of cinematic plugins and they could make a nice scene that explains the game.
I have another issue that I would like to bring up. When a player lands in Town Spawn, they are FACING the Frontier portals. Since most players come with experience from other servers, wild is what they are looking for, they are only expecting to see 1 type of wild. The Town spawn should be set up so that the players all Face the WASTE tp's when they land, encouraging them to go defile the Wastes (as intended). This way, when they have 10 minutes of experience under their belts, they can go explore the Wild Frontier and maybe read some of those signs on their way out Can't figure if that would be rotating Town Spawn or just changing the direction where you tp. I know there are some feelings about owning res near Town Spawns... not getting into that here. Just saying it would help with where they run to when the new players first get here. I also have some ideas about what the new tutorial should include, but I will leave that for later - no idea yet where to file it.....
