Community and Staff Discussion Thread

Discussion in 'Community Discussion' started by Yixomua, Oct 29, 2019.

  1. This thread was getting a bit crazy, so I decided to make a new thread.

This is a thread for general discussion between community members and the staff team. Suggestions are welcome. Please be constructive and stay on-topic to keep this a productive conversation. This is not a place for drama and personal attacks.

    • Involve public in more decisions
  2. I thought you wanted a thread for suggestions to separate them from the other thread. Might need to re-word OP. Also, as mentioned, this is a thread for discussion between community members. Staff are gonna sit this one out for a bit and just see what y'all come up with suggestion wise. So discuss as if you are brainstorming together. Build off each other, and stay productive.
  3. I could add a list of suggestions that were already proposed on the other thread, but I guess this could also be a place for proper discussion.

  4. That would be a great starting point for your discussion.

  5. Awesome, I applaud for splitting off the substantive information from, whatever that thread is turning into~

Personally, I do not think I have anything else to say that Kryssy and Chickeneer has not already addressed.
  6. Keep the thread on topic and free of negative drama like the other thread. Drama posts will be deleted.

  7. I guess I'll start off with a suggestion. Is there a possibility to have the community have some influence on which staff members are added to the team?

EDIT: To reword it as a suggestion:
Maybe we can have the staff picks for the team be selected based on two factors: a panel of existing staff and the community. Essentially, an election, but the staff team still retains most of the say and the final decision. I guess the implementation and the best way to go about it if this happens would be up for debate.
  8. Yixomua,

This would not be a community discussion item and it's asking the staff a question. (Answer: suggeststaff.emc.gs)This thread is for suggestions to be made and community discussion.

So come up with direct suggestions of things you'd like to see. Then discuss.

Example: more firefloor would be great, but change the rewards to have something more than donations, maybe a set rupee minimum.

  9. I think a very obvious step would be to democratise more of what happens on EMC. Since I assume behind the scenes you guys go through several different designs for promos maybe pick the top 3 and vote 2 weeks before it’s release for which one. Don’t give any details other than the name. Also, get someone to run a Twitter, reddit, Facebook, Instagram, and any other social network you can think of, though I think this has been in the other thread already.
  10. Better yet, make a Social Media Team.
  11. I know there's a suggestion form for staff. To clarify, my suggestion is more direct involvement in the consideration process on top of the existing suggestion form.
  12. So much yes. <3

  13. I’d imagine it could be incorporated under the steam team. Just rename them the Media team.

  14. Yes, could do it that way too.

  16. A recommendation regarding update discussion. The 1.14 update is the only code thing on my plate till it is finished. So bear in mind that anything else code related would come with/after that (depending on complexity).
A solid discussion point, is what people's opinions are related to prioritizing those next updates. The simpler the update, the more likely it can be done in a reasonable amount of time. Complicated things like a brand new website is not productive discussion at this time.

Getting into nitty-gritty details on an update. Should probably be addressed in its own thread in the Suggestion Box. So it can be found later...
Such a vague thread as this, will likely go in 100 different directions. I encourage thinking about ways to keep big ideas tracked.

Edit: Feel free to discuss other aspects of Updating EMC. Just my recommendations on what I see being helpful on my end. Could gather a wide variety of input here, then gauge community priorities through a carefully planned survey later. Feel free to message me if you want me to weigh in on the difficulty to implement something. I don't have all of the answers - but I am likely going to have the best idea regarding ease to add. Don't be scared to discuss something just because you think it sounds hard. It could be "surprisingly simple"

Edit 2: I am not a web dev, so don't be surprised when I essentially ignore that discussion. It is not personal

  17. I have a few new event ideas I've been working on. Some I'd like to showcase are:
    • Capture the Flag
    • Seasonal Tunnels
    • Class Based PvP Matches
    • Horse Racing
    Capture the Flag:
Teams of 4 or 5 players work together to capture the enemy's pig with a saddle, which acts as a flag, and ride it to their base. The first team to get 3 pigs at their base wins.
The teams will each have a set of items once they set foot into the arena. Items will be a Carrot on a Stick, either a Red dyed or Blue dyed leather armor (depending on the team you get the corresponding color) an Iron Sword, an Infinity Bow, 3 Gapples, and a Shield. The reasons for the melee items is that you will be able to die and a form of protection is needed to protect your teammate riding the pig. Obstacles can also be added to the arena to spice up the game and make it a bit more exciting.
The winners will get their name added to a leaderboard found in the forums later.

Seasonal Tunnels: Instead of just having Tunnel of Love, we can have tunnels for other holidays. I can specifically see, St.Patricks Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, named Tunnel of Luck, Tunnel of Terror, Tunnel of Thanks, and Tunnel of Toys respectively. I already have Tunnel of Terror and a Utopian res so you can get a better feel of what Im aiming for.

Class Based Pvp Matches: Players are able to choose a class they want to be before going into an arena and fighting another team. The classes are:
A Heavy: Player has a Notch Apple for extra health, a Shield, and a Sharpness 4 Sword
A Healer: Player has a golden apple for personal use, and a stack of healing potions
A Sniper: Player has a Power 3 Infinity Bow with different arrow effects and has a diamond sword
A Scout: Player has 6 Potions of Swiftness (8 Minute lasting time) and a regular diamond sword

Horse Racing: Player can either bring their own horses or the owner can provide horses that have the same speed to each participant. The players use the horses to run around a track with obstacles ten times, and the top three winners are given prizes.
