  1. That was your first house? That's so much more impressive than the box I had...

  2. Also, at the time I built this there was a bug where flowers were turning into netherwart.....
  3. Oh boy.

I first started playing Minecraft during Beta 1.8 as I recall. My son had been playing it and said several times that he thought it was something I might like and I should try it.

I remember he had this little house in the side of a cliff and had been struggling to harvest trees and grow wheat without getting killed by mobs. I don't recall seeing any weapons. He was just hiding all night and working during the day. After watching him a bit I asked if I could join, but it was single player so we took turns playing. After he coached me through things like not using a shovel for everything and getting killed a bunch of times, we decided to see if we could set up a server so we could both play.

We were pretty silly and unsophisticated looking back. Didn't know crafting recipes. Didn't light things up. No enchantments, potions. No clue what Redstone was for. Ran around with no armor or weapons and used mainly Stone tools to conserve Iron(because we died so much and lost them so often). Died over and over in silly, sad ways... yet quite memorable and lots of fun.

We played for a couple days then I started playing on my own at night. Several times we invited his friends over to join the server on our LAN. Over the course of about a year I actually had a few places I was playing at in this world because someone would die then not know how to get back to where we had been again, start something new, then not want to give it up after they had invested their time in it so everyone would wander until they figured out where the new gathering place was.

I remember one weekend after the kids had built this big wood house, I had died and stayed there on my way back to my place. I remember sleeping in a bed and getting blown up by a Creeper through the wall somehow. Then I kept spawning at the bed or having to swim back from Spawn, then getting chased around and blown up all over their house. I spent the next few hours trying to repair holes in the walls and save the stuff that had been in blown open chests. This experience was where I decided I needed to train myself to run away from what I valued when I saw a Creeper rather than run toward safety, a policy that I still keep today.

The result was that I have memories of several places I spent quite a bit of time playing at and not a true first house.

So we had the initial base, and I had played in a place I was calling Pine Tree Island, then a post I made near where my son and his friends were playing, and another spot where I made a goofy giant tree. The tree was funny because I didn't know about Shears and did the branches of the tree by growing trees on Dirt I placed on it then replacing the Dirt afterwards. It looked cool from a distance at least.

I eventually started not being so lame. Near the end I had started working towards connecting all the bases with rail and trying to make things look nicer like some of the things I saw when reading about the game. One day, my son restarted the PC the server was on and corrupted our little world. When I got it back a lot of chunks had been corrupted and I lost about a month of work including the tree and rail stations... I quit for several months, then went in search of a multiplayer server.

At this point I couldn't get away without actually buying Minecraft. It has been the best money I've spent on a game.

I loaded up the last two backups of my original world, Endgard, today. I enabled cheats so I could fly around and take some screenshots.

The spawn area was an island. Whenever we died we swam to the main island. No one thought to put resources there or connect it to the mainland. Eventually I planted some trees, but yeah.

    Looks creepy now.

This was the house near Pine island.

    Front:

It is obviously well lit in there:

Weeks of mining netted me this chest of treasure and a precious Diamond pick. Nowadays, I could probably do this in an hour:

I lost count of how many times the backside of this house was blown away or how many times a Spider jumped from the roof onto my head:

End of the line for the mining rail. I am not sure the thinking behind the Lever. I think it was a way to keep from having to chase runaway carts after I got out then accidentally bumped them.

As I learned I started putting up more torches and keeping valuable things behind double sets of doors. At this point I felt confident enough to make a hallway like this. The junction beyond was the start of the rail line that went to the northern tip of Pine Island where the giant Tree was, through an underwater tunnel, and was intended to continue on to the other places we were playing:

I eventually made it to the Nether. I never explored very far and had a laughable first experience with Pigmen, but I've already probably written more than most people care to read:

This was the place where I had a Bed against the wall and a Creeper somehow blew a hole in it. It was exhausting trying to rescue the stuff from blown up Chests while trying to plug holes:

A friend's Dirt pillars AKA "Navigation Aids"

I built this second house near the Clubhouse since the other guys were playing there, but I wanted to avoid the chaos of the Clubhouse since I had outpaced their play style at that point. Just before the reboot accident we found a Stronghold under the sandy island you can see peeking between the two hills.

When I joined here I expected to be playing 2.0 and was surprised that we were on 1.2 and getting ready for 1.3 because I had been playing 1.9b as I recall. Lately I've been thinking this was sort of a special time because this update puts me back to playing 1.9 and the next update will presumably be the version I expected to be playing here over four years ago.
  4. My first minecraft house was on pocket edition. It was back in the time when bricks, stone, and wood were unlimited. It was a tiny
5x5 brick shack with a dark, mob infested basement.
  5. My first ever houses weren't all that bad. The first house I ever made was in MCPE Lite, where I dug a 10x10 room unterground and lit it up, terrified of monsters and with no clue how to fight back. Then I got MCPE, and built a big stone brick house. It had windows 3 blocks up too! It also had a triple bunk bed (for me and my sisters who would join my world), an organized chest setup, a chicken pen, and an empty moat. Somehow, I managed to build all that before I discovered mining. =P When I first started playing PC, I had 1 world, where I didn't actually get very far. I spawned in the mountains, and spent a week getting a load of coal and working my way up to a bed. It never really occured to me that I should build a house around it. After a few month's break, I came back to the game, and my younger sister dictated the making of a house (lapis/gold walls, birch stair roof), a treehouse (made out of the different kinds of wood), and a stable (made of only oak planks). Then, I discovered multiplayer, and now I hardly ever play singleplayer.
  6. Well my first Minecraft house was made on the playstation version. I initially dug into the dirt and expanded outwards and upwards. I even managed to cover the entire outside with endstone after surviving long enough to defeat the dragon. It was nice, but my ps3 crapped out and fried itself.... Lost my home lol.

Now here on E.M.C., my first home was a log cabin like home that is still on my res now. I have given it a lil basement and some decorative glass blocks on top. I like what I managed ^_^

Now, I have four reses that are connected by my sandstone pillar and it is all going to come together soon. I love this server. :)

i remember being so scared because of the zombies
and so i trapped myself with a sheep inside a small building
