Yes, I use Fraps (I have a 6 TB hard drive so file size isn't a problem :3), then I fire up Vdub, set compression to Xvid 720p (I rarely use 1080p because that's a waste of time) with the res of 1280x800. And MPEG-3 audio formatting. Vdub (Or rather the codec) can compress an 18.5 GB video into a 2.25 GB. Yeah. As for a mic, I don't speak. For recording external audio, use a legit microphone, and I believe Audacity (free) records and formats that audio, so you can sync it with the game audio + video. <3 The new games by EA sucks. I liked the older games when Westwood Studios had their own power to make their games and EA has a good creative crew to build the Generals franchise. That's also why I stopped recording Ra3, because the gameplay was unbearable.

Dual Monitor FTW... Excuse the mess, but thanks to the Army, my desktop is really the only place i can be messy. And my bg isnt usually that, changed it to view, and was to lazy to change back . Due to my massive amounts of video/photo/graphic editing.. I just wind up with different solids and such all over my desktop. But I also use my search bar alot, so alot of my mainly used programs are not on the desktop.
My laptops always had a FN button on the left hand side between the Windows and Ctrl buttons. (the one I use does) Hold that and press the button that has Prt Sc (print screen) and then open paint/paint.net/photoshop/whatever you use and paste it in there. My Windows 7 desktop is a bit more cluttered, and it took ages for me to return to Ubuntu because Windows decided it wanted to install a dozen updates (I rarely use Windows anymore at home).
