Recently, I have seen a LOT of people smp hopping showing how they are auctioning things and it really spams the chat saying how they joined, then them saying what they're auctioning and then they leave. So for this, I have found a solution. Why not we add a /shout command in which you say something that every smp can see. But to reduce spam, let there be a time limit on how long a cooldown will be for the command. I suggest making the cooldown at least 1 hour and reduce the cooldown time limit depending on your rank.
This was suggested and denied due to spam reasons. If they're not in economy chat report them, if they do it too much then report them.
Yes, but if there was a 1 hour cooldown, there would actually be less volume of chat taken up for advertising auctions. It could be an auction specific chat. FinalArc is right. When someone advertises on each smp now, there are 3 things that show up instead of 1. Then some players go around all servers 3 or 4 times in one hour. This won't add spam, it would reduce it greatly. I say it should be /auction.
I like the idea. I believe something is being worked on to allow anyone to chat a cross all servers easily without a command although I haven't seen much talk of it in a while.
As nfell said: economy chat is the solution here. Maybe good to know: there have been talks about setting up some kind of cross-server chat channels. Not too much is known though, but staff have shared thoughts in that direction. As to reporting people: do keep in mind that sometimes the numbers may annoy you and not so much the players themselves. You know; you see one person advertising in town chat and you wonder "why?". You see a second and a third and when the fourth player comes along you decide to /report him. But if you do, keep well in mind that this player could have made an honest mistake and wasn't fully aware of all this yet. You became annoyed because it was the fourth time a player advertised, not because this particular player did it. So before reporting players I'd definitely suggest you friendly /tell them about their mistake first.
Not all advertising is economy related.I sometimes move around servers to advertise events and things like that which cost nothing to participate in. If economy chat is what those should be done in too, it should be renamed to advertisement chat.
However, it is less spam AND less work for the player who is trying to advertise. And literally no one blocks economy chat -_- Also, reporting people isn't the solution. If they get muted, so what? They'll just keep doing it if they really want to advertise.
Then if they do it again, they get muted longer. And so on, until it's a /mute instead of a /tempmute.
I did no "gnawing." I simply explained what would happen. I've started a PM with you about this. I will request all further posts regarding this "topic" to be deleted. Thanks.
./shout *posts link to drop party* Then you'd have to wait an hour to do it again, or something like that. I could see something like that being good
Maybe when/if this is added, there can be something added that allows people to block economy chat. The way we do it now, it gets turned back on when you exit server.
Well, I gotta agree there. There is a economy chat just for auctioning stuff... I mean, I do that hopping server thing and even though I kinda think it's a lil bit annoying both for me and the people who have to hear me. Cuz like It's kinda boring to keep jumping thru server to server... A better suggestion would be a Chat channel that works for all servers and it's for economy purposes only. This channel of course could be deactivated by users, so there wouldn't be so much spamming.
Why would you want to make a link to a drop party.. Either way, I never said that it HAS to be 1 hour. I was suggesting it.
Instead of that, make rules for the /shout so it can't be abused. Such as make it usable only for events. Though I dont see how it can be abused knowing that there is a cooldown.
Really, all economy chat is used for is for advertising auctions. I haven't seen it being used for any other reason.
Well.. I did Some players also use it for economy talk, like price checks and all. But I agree: seldom. But I think its a good thing that players use it for auctions. This gives everyone a fair chance to ignore the whole thing if they want to.
Meh. It's really your preference whether you would like to add it or not. It just bugs me with the spam that I recieve
