The New Player Experience - Finding where to improve!

The tutorial part 2 sounds great! Please fix the soulbound wood problem quickly, lots of new players are trying to make crafting tables out of it and getting stuck. Most of the older players don't understand why they are having problems because they don't know about it being soulbound and can't tell them what to do (ie use regular planks).

Hmm...had a player tell me this morning they couldn't make a crafting table but they did say they had asked for help on it the day before and didn't get an answer. Its possible they tried yesterday, didn't get it to work and didn't try it again this morning before asking for help again. Thanks for working on it.

Seeing this, would it be possible to have the Empire guide have words you can mouse over to know more about it.

Flag: A permission in which you can give people to do certain actions on your residence.

I think it would help people understand more.

Adding on to the tutorial problems, I think a new way to get the new players to find their ways around is to make a tutorial that new players can't just ignore entirely like they have been.

The current tutorial is just there while they prepare the real tutorial.

Instead of some automatic robot answering the questions, I think it would be more beneficial to have Empire Helpers.

But what happens when there isn't one online? As robotic as it is, I'm sure it'll be really useful.

Simple. Have more helpers than moderators. A lot of people know EMC really well, enough to teach it to another player.

Why do you have to be a helper to help though? Not having a fancy colored name doesn't make you any less useful or helpful.

Sort of like being a contributor. The title below your name seems useless but it lets people know you are there to help the wiki and the blog.

Having a fancy colored name for an Empire Helper lets people know that they can ask them any questions and they are more than welcome to help.

I don't see why we'd need a special rank for people to help out the new players if we can already do that without ranks.

That might get people into the frame of mind that only these "helper" people could help them.
A better solution would be to enforce that the community is available to answer their questions, they just need to ask.

I highly doubt that. Moderators are the people to go to if somebody breaks the rules. Yet people still shout "IVE BEEN GRIEFED"

Maybe that's because they don't know what to do, or don't know how to report it.

That's where the community aspect comes in.
You see someone saying they've been griefed, you direct them to a staff member.
You see someone asking a question, you direct them to who can help (most likely a staff member) or attempt to answer the question yourself.

More often as a Moderator (and in my IRL job) I see people of the mindset of "I have a question, I think that only this person can help me, so I won't try asking anybody else"

How do you think the new players feel?
They do not know how to do most of the stuff. Which is why if they see a person with a special name (Empire Helper) they would go to them and ask them. If they just say it in town chat, the Empire Helper would help them out with whatever they require.
