Just to clarify, are regular mob spawners still usable? And will we still get the same drops as normal from them when playing on difficulty level 5? Also, nice work
So your saying that it's better that I jump down from a 30 block stacked high pillar and run to the monster and try to kill it? Hoping that that drop doesn't kill me first. Since when has NPCs have an Equal treatment like Human Players? This makes me feel like returning to WOW! A monster falls in a 2 high deep hole and i see it then kill it! It said i cheated. A Monster is being trapped by water running down a ditch and i killed it! Is said I'm cheating again! I trapped a chicked in a 3 x 3 wooden fence and then i killed it! It said i was cheating as well! Come on? This used to be fun and now I see why people grief! To relieve this type of tension.
The anti cheap kill stuff only applies to CUSTOM EMC Drops and Tokens, stuff that has never dropped from mob spawners in the first place. This system makes it so you have to earn these rewards through fair combat, and has been in place for a month now. Essentially, you can still kill mobs with "tactics" that prevents you from dieing, and youll get the vanilla drops... It's the EMC custom stuff that you will not receive. Otherwise people with farms will rack up tons of rewards for no risk, while normal players have to fight for every token and custom item they get. About the previous use of the word "Anti cheat": its not the same "Cheating" word as in "your going to get banned", just in the context of "you twisted game dynamics around the intended approach" Definition of cheating: If you remove risk from the equation, its only fair to remove reward too, otherwise you then approach the 2nd part of that definition: unfair advantage. We are NOT going to tell people they have to build a mob trap just to be on the same playing field to gain tokens/items as other players. Killing monsters naturally will be the intended method of combat.
By my definition, someone who sits out in the Waste when no one else is out there waiting for Momentus to spawn, knowing the spawn times and that he will spawn right next to him is cheating. It is hunting, not a chance encounter. It's being done, but I am not the Dungeon Master who is re-defining the rules as cheating while we play here. Since unfair advantage is being defined by someone who dislikes mob traps but is ok with this, the "unfair playing field" is being handed over to a group of people who play gladiator by restricting other forms of play through code. The truly normal players ability to earn tokens is being buried by Momentus campers. If using a game's rules to advantage is cheating, what is defining rewards like tokens then changing the rules so only certain people are going to get most of them? I'll slither back to my cheating lair and await all the obsequious responses.
How is that any different than someone strip mining for Diamonds specifically? That would simply be a case on someone focusing on a very specific task and doing it more efficiently than "do everything at once". This statement seems irrelevant to the rest of the post. This is NEW Elements being added to the game. Mojang did not develop these features, so therefor it is my responsibility to ensure proper game design. Not implementing a system like this would be horrible and defeat the entire purpose of the personal player difficulty setting. Mojang did not create the rules for personal player difficulty and EMC custom drops... So nothing is being restricted. In terms of Vanilla game play, nothing has been altered. I'm confused by this. Normal players don't quickly build some form of kill chamber when Momentus spawns randomly on them, how is this related? Desired flow is 1) Playing Game 2) Momentus/Marlix Spawns 3) You go get extra resources/friends/help (or solo if prepared already) 4) Fight 5) Reward No rules were changed for the negative for tokens... Only improved so you have less issues with the system when it comes to bosses. This system has to be in place with the difficulty setting - otherwise whats to stop people from killing things on difficulty 10 with no risk at all? These rewards are not designed around the concept of being solo'd... but if your able to just kill momentus without taking a single hit, then you can achieve massive tokens and item drops for no risk. how is that fair? i guess I could cap the minimum score nerf to be 3, so you'll get SOMETHING, but not the full reward. ------------- your post seems to be attacking the concept of changing rules... But let me re-assess that last nights update did not change any rules... The only relevancy to rule changing was the difficulty update, and the only difference that has changed is ability to get custom items utilizing kill chamber/no risk tactics on difficulty 5 (Where you were able to get them previously but now you cant if you kill them without risk). EMC's added features will always be subject to change to ensure proper balance. I'm sorry if that upsets anyone, but this is a necessity of game design. When you realize something is not right, you fix it. Allowing 1 player to get tons of loot on difficulty 10 soloing Momentus with LESS EFFORT than a player killing him on Difficulty 5.... that is broken.
Also, pushed out some fixes this morning. The messages no longer will spam, and now says "Monster" since not everyone knows what an entity is. Also fixed the bug with muted players.
If you are being notified that you are triggering the anti cheat system during normal game play, feel free to report the situation to staff. We will be working as a group to inform Aikar of issues as they develop. EMC is always a work in progress and open to adjusting things as necessary. The issue with marlix getting nerfed was in direct response to complaint that marlix wasn't giving drops during normal battle. The word cheating does sound pretty harsh. At first it sounds like cheating=ban harsh. We are not saying that mob farms are cheating and a better term is needed to explain what is happening.
I thought I read something last night about Momentus doing a warpto even on lower levels. Is this correct? Could you clarify this? He can't just spawn and then warp you to him, right?
It's only when you hit him. But yes it is on all mobs for 8+ difficulty, but mini bosses is all difficulty. So killing enraged < 8 will not teleport, but will lower the entities effective difficulty score (So its like your on a lower difficulty) And Ill replace all wording of "cheat" with "cheap kill"
I was playing earlier today, and noticed that heads still aren't fixed when I would wear them. They work on the ground though.
So in simple words my natural kill platform is now useless to farm fragments from because its "cheap" to have full healthed monsters fully capable of killing me, and have on multiple occasions, because I have them in a water area surrounded by obsidian to protect the surrounding areas and still must fully damage the mobs on the platform because of the water..? I guess I should contract someone to blow it up as it would take too long to manually remove it, and as it was made from natural materials, it wouldn't be like I was losing anything, besides a way to centralize the spawns in my outpost.. ..As the system still see it as an unfair advantage with the full risks not being removed.
