I'm looking into getting a new computer, and I was wondering if anyone could help me with some questions: First: Is it possible/practical to get a macbook that could run minecraft w/ recording software at a solid 30fps, and >60fps when not? Second: How decent are the iMac graphics (maxed out)? NOTE: Not interested in PC. Don't try to persuade me otherwise. They are better at gaming, but I'm using one right now and tired of it. I also do lots of photography and videos, and use many mac-only apps. Thanks!
I would not say it is practical if you biggest goal is to get a macbook for recording Minecraft... Macbooks are overly expensive. Though if you are looking into a lot of photo/video editing aside from just minecraft..(would have to be a lot to convince practical to me) then yeah.. its easily doable. Macbooks on the high end, are still pretty powerful machines. Especially in the realm of creation and editing of virtual mediums.
I can't read, so this is my advice. Search up on what configuration (building or prebuilt, I suggest building) is the best for a Hackintosh and see if you can get more for your money (iMacs are ridiculously expensive), be able to photo edit on Mac software, and also be able to play Windows games while also being able to play Minecraft on the Mac side with a very high FPS. I've dealt w/ hackintosh's and don't like them. Minecraft is a secondary thing when it comes to computers, but still important. All I'm wondering is if iMacs/MacBooks run it OK. Honestly, the time it would take to build a PC/Hackintosh isn't worth the $$$ it would save me.

Thanks! Yeah it is just a side thing, recording it wouldn't be my main purpose. They are overpriced for gaming, but the integration w/ my other apple stuff and my fluency in OSX makes it worth it to me.
As usual most people refuse to actually answer the question asked. I recently chose to build a PC over updating my macbook, but I definitely understand why you want a Mac, I really like them. While the upper level Macbooks can't compete with the performance or value of a custom built gaming rig, they should definitely be able to run Minecraft adequately, and record acceptably as well. The top of the line iMacs should be able to do pretty much everything you want easily.

The beginning of that makes it sound like you actually haven't, as they are essentially Macs except they don't look like them. It takes only a few hours to build a computer. I recently built one for one of my friends and there several complications (aka, me not plugging in a few important things lol) and it still took only an hour to do. If your time is worth between $150-300 per hour, then why are you even considering not buying what you really want?
I run Mac, currently at 60 FPS with a 32x32 pack, no mods installed, so optifine would boost me. Specs: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 384 MB Built - in Color LCD Display Macbook Pro, Retina Display I believe. I highly recommend it.
The Macbook Pro with retina display is great for photography and video editing. It's quite a high end computer, and it has the price tag to match. It's a good computer and it gets the job done, no more, no less. It doesn't have pointless amounts of ram I'm not sure, but it may have had issues running Minecraft due to the ultra-high resolution of the screen.
Look at the first line of his post. A Hackintosh is a home built Mac, it is just friendly on the budget. I believe what he meant by the quoted statement is that there is no reason to buy one because all you are doing is paying an incredibly inflated price for just a case, and he is not saying that they aren't useful.

Instead of spending $4,000 on a Mac Pro, you can spend $2,744.87 on a build your own with an SSD for your boot drive, an HDD for Recording, a GTX 750TI Graphics card, and ridiculous expandability. With the most expensive (standard) Mac Pro ($4,000) you only get a 128Gb SSD, which is ridiculous - not to mention that you get the terrible AMD integrated graphics. I don't know why you'd need a Xeon processor anyways though... they're Server Grade processors and aren't really meant for this kinda thing.
Erm... I unwatched the thread after mba's post. I have my question answered, and I was serious when I said that wasn't even considering PC. I checked back on the thread for the lulz, and there is like 5000 posts telling me to at least make a hackintosh. To tell you the truth, I have a moral objection to hackintoshes. You are cheating a company out of revenue (albeit a big, soulless one) and it's operating system is free software from a company that makes hardware. Thanks.
