?

Do you think EMC should allow a max bid increment option?

  1. Make it simple and have aikar make the decision but I believe he will agree with scruffy

  2. Ok so if I put an auction with starting bid of 1r and ends in 48 hrs buy it now 100k. Then that person wouldn't be the brightest

  3. The staff have consistently sided with the max=allowed argument in the past.
In excessive amounts, I can see them as harmful. But if there are just a few when we have a separate auction box, then I think there is no harm being done.

  4. I would say since max bids are not often included in auctions, then they can be permitted. If they were to ever get out of hand, though, in the near future, then we should restrict the use of max bids. It seems not enough bad things have come from max bids to make them illegal.

Someone might reintroduce this debate in a month or two. We'll see by then if they ever get out of hand. I'm not certain they will. Who knows? Max bids are not causing a wide range of trouble as of right now.

  5. i dont think they are common enough to worry about at this point
  6. That's not true. The poorer people won't have any more of a chance. The people that would go 200k right away will still go to 200k, be it with steps of 5k. So the poorer people will make bids, but they will lose the auction sooner or later - later in this case, because the maximum bid increment makes the auction go slow. Also, more rich people will see the thread obviously, because it is buhped so often. The poorer people will still have to opt out though, while the richer people can go on, at least to the amount they would normally bump it up to in one shot.
  7. "Maximum auction bids". Did I read this correctly? Why would one want to restrict the amount of money the auction host receives? I've seen some theories in this thread as to the merits of such a restriction, but (Forgive me) they just don't seem logical. For all I know, somebody could place a 400k bid on a DC of dirt (that would be absurd, but I believe I've made my point clear) to demonstrate how desperately he/she desires that dirt. Restricting the bids would only dissuade potential purchasers from even considering typing in the text field.
  8. It is in reference in the increments, not the total.
  9. That doesn't alter my position in any way.
  10. It doesn't cap the auction, just slows down its pace, allowing it to be bumped by bidders until it hits its max price. That is why one would "restrict" bids.
