I may be in the minority here, but I'm not sure I like some of these new updates. Adding the giant zombie in? Sure, okay, I can see that. He's been there in the code since forever. "Normal" survival mode, fair enough, trying to spice things up. But super-powerful mobs, god-gear drops, and exploding hell-hounds? That sounds more like Terraria than Minecraft to me. Obviously it's a done deal at this point and the staff is all very proud of they new content... my personal feeling on it however, is that this skews EMC away from "French Vanilla" into heavily modded territory. I see most everyone jumping for joy because "omg new stuff" and that's fine. For my part though, I like EMC because it's "basically" the same as single-player, but with towns and economy features. If I wanted to worry about "an evil presence watching me," I'd be loading up on musket balls and waiting for the Eye of Cthulhu to show up.
If these were frequently spawning mobs I would definitely feel the same way about this update. But since they're so rare, I think it's a fair balance between our prior "Frence Vanilla" twist and the new mobs. Like Aikar said earlier in this thread, if you don't want to take on any of these mobs then you definitely don't have to. The only one that actually tries taking you on (that's been found so far) is Momentus, who can still be gotten away from if you try. Other than that, the new spawns really don't affect EMC's gameplay unless you choose to let them.
You're not. I'm just not feeling it for some reason :I Just more stuff for people to auction and make money on.
We've said for quite a while now that EMC does not plan to stay Vanilla or remain as a "Purely Economy" type server. We never actually wanted to be just that to be honest. Our ultimate goal for people to be able to come to EMC and form groups and go on adventures and see new things on a semi-regular basis. So, if you're only into JUST vanilla stuff, EMC is likely going in a direction you might not like. However, we're simply doing things that vanilla Minecraft is allowing us to do for the most part. As Minecraft itself goes on they will add more items, more mobs, and more bosses. We're doing the same thing, but just more of it to keep it extra fresh and fun.
I can't help but read this as "We don't want your kind here, and never did." Which is probably not what you meant, but when you say that you "never wanted that" (to be an economy/vanilla server), which is what you have, realize that you're telling not just me, but everyone who signed up to EMC reading the description and expecting that it would be a largely Vanilla experience that "Hey, this isn't actually what we wanted to do, and now we can go in THIS direction!" it's... well, perhaps not the best way to phrase yourself, ICC. I'll concede Kadboy's point that, if these mega-mobs are as rare as advertised, it probably won't be an issue for me personally, at least for a while. And if it does become an issue, I admit there are other servers out there. But y'know what? I have never logged in to any of them. EMC is the only minecraft "home" I've ever known. All my friends and neighbors are here. Being told that EMC is "going in a direction I might not like" does not sit well with me, because it means choosing between my friends, and the gameplay itself. It means I can either choose to remain with EMC and its community, and grind my teeth as successive updates push the game further from what I registered for, or I can leave to look for a new server, abandon my friends and comrades and the months of hard work I've put in to places like New Atlantia, Casa Del Keph (16087), and a succession of SMP7 derelicts. I don't particularly care for some of the new stuff, but it's not so much that it will cause me to depart. Being told that I probably won't enjoy the server for much longer, however... I offer this suggestion now, in the hope that it's acceptable enough to please both the majority who enjoy this new content and what's to come, and people like me who enjoy EMC for what it is and has always been up to this point: Restrict server-side mods, adventure updates, Marlix, etc to the Wastelands. This way places like Sunstreak, The New Republic, Pazzo, New Atlantia, and so forth won't have to worry that a 30block zombie will come knocking the walls down, or fret that Marlix will spawn on them at the worst possible times. It will allow those who wish to keep their bland, boring French Vanilla experience to do so, and it'll still give everyone with a lust for adventure a place to go hunting. I don't know how difficult that'd be to do, but I'd gladly help if I could. I like EMC as it is now, I don't need "extra fresh and fun" to enjoy it.
That's how it feels currently given about 4 or 5 of the 9 recently active threads is always an Auction. :/ Would be nice to add something that doesn't involve rupees or you to be a supporter.
oh seems i need to find new server the emc economy made this server such fun i dont feel like goin on kill missions all the time.
Nevermind. I could try to explain what I mean but it's just going to turn into me looking like a jerk and being told "If you don't like it then leave."
I think Panda is saying is that this new update creates MORE rupee-related threads, such as auctions for the new rare mob drops and such, and it opens up new ways for people to make money, so in a way this update has economy aspects to it
