  1. The nether crashes me so I can't do it.

  2. That idea has been proposed but firstly, the wall is too far from anything and secondly the plan of the LLO rail network is that all rail lines go direct to something from a central point.

  3. A belt way is a very common part of almost every city...

  4. I'm sure we could put in some work into linking the Circumference line to the centre via 4 lines, one going horizontally from the western to easternmost points of the LLO, one going vertically to the northern to the southernmost points of the LLO, and two going diagonally from the topright to bottomleft, and topleft to bottom right. It would be a lot of effort, but it would be quite helpful in making the entirety of the LLO easily accessible from anywhere, breaking down some transportation barriers that prevent a lot of collaboration and more creative success.

  5. This kind of thing has been discussed before. It was rejected. Trust me, I have proposed almost everything imaginable to do with the transportation system.

  6. You wouldn't extend the existing one so that people aren't aware of where it is? Seems like a lot of effort. Also, there are no good approaches other than the current one, so it would have to run parallel, or go around the other side of the nether spawn to the south. This is much farther.

By the way, the safest way to get to LLO without changing anything is by boat from the south. You can leave from the wild protected spawn and sail right to Grand Central or to the west/stadium.

  7. What you are describing is the "hub and spoke" model: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spoke-hub_distribution_paradigm

It is very common in big cities: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/huang284/complexsys/road map of boston.jpg

In the real world, I'd be all for it, but in LLO, that is just that much more rail for griefers to steal. You have no idea how much rail has been replaced...

  8. You need to set your view distance to low before you go into the nether.

  9. Ah, right, it's a griefing problem. Well, why not just an underground network of roads without rails? That could work, we could maybe toss canals into the mix. We could also invite anyone who wishes to place rails and ride on them, letting them know they may be griefed. That would be a volunteer crowd-sourcing initiative that would give the citizens of the LLO less to worry about.

    • I suggest you spend a good bit of time exploring the current streets, basements, and rail networks of LLO so that you have an understanding of what is already there before planning the wholesale re-execution of existing infrastructure.
    • I answered the rail question in another post. Spending resources on needless rail connections is a waste of effort and leaves more area open to griefing.
    • I would have loved to make the wall less straight, but the extra effort involved is ridiculous.
    • I don't know what you're talking about in regards to preventing collaboration. If a chunk of the wall is in your way, feel free to put a gate in it, knock it down or modify it.
    • Diagonal anything in Minecraft is ugly and difficult.

  10. You keep talking about "volunteers" and "crowd sourcing". Where are these people at? I haven't seen them. You make my head hurt.

Edit: You should track the number of people playing and try to figure out how you're going to incentivize these people to switch servers and work for you: http://empireminecraft.com/servers/

  11. So shavingfoam and I were talking. There have been a fair few griefings of the rail system and shavingfoam said there should be some engineers to go around and fix all the damage. So with the new 1.5 redstone update coming soon, I thought maybe we should just do one massive fix of the rail system to accommodate some of the changes. it would not change the idea of the rail system, just the way it works. So what do you guys think?

We thought it would be better to make a longer nether pathway to take people direct to the stadium.
Jakres, Bu11dawg, L0tad and 2 others like this.
  12. So, longer nether pathway sure, but why not just extend the existing path? The new portal is just a little farther out in the same direction (basically)

I'm up to fix the redstone stuff that I put in that does rail switching. I don't believe most of the simple circuits should break, so upgrading them is optional at best.

  13. Well there will be new rails to do some new things. So it might be good to use those.

  14. So I finally got around to updating the rail map after nearly three months. Changes include:
    • Addition of the Lääne Saared Line in Yetti Village.
    • Completion of the station by zulu's library in West LLO.
    • Addition of a new line that is under construction by the library station.

    Rail System Status:
    GREEN

There were minor griefings throughout the rail system, with the Lime Line hit hardest. Some rails were missing and some stations were not functioning properly. All damage has been repaired. However, the station in the middle of the Obsidian Line is not functioning properly. I tried to fix it, but was not able to. :(

  15. I get on and try to fix it since I built the Obsidian Line lol
  16. woooo yes

  17. Waaaa lol

About the beltway idea. If look at shavingfoams map there is a somewhat beltway in the northeasten ways

Start at Central Station Brown line to sub-line to obsidian line to sub-lines to sub-line to Red line back to Central Station.

  19. short update on the chance of me being back in game soon:
not good. I am stuck with this 1GB ram machine at the moment at that is just not enough to run MC in multiplayer at the LLO. I even tried the default textures and running in a small window but java alone + the OS take up most of the ram.
I might have a new job soon and first thing I will save up to is a decent computer this probably will take some months.
I hope I will be able to login from friend's computers from time to time so my smp3 res and other things won't get deleted. If this not work I might beg a mod to make an exception ;)
Also no more chunkies from me probably as the friend's server is now used for other stuff too.

I will stay active here, on the site, G+ community etc.
So be sure to keep the screenshots going. Also some videos would be nice so I can get my LLO fix ;)
