  1. I was recently posting a small 2 word message in server chat and accidentally hit the caps lock button and pressed ENTER before catching the mistake. I immediately followed up with a message simply stating "oops, caps". I was promptly kicked for CAPS. Now I do appreciate anyone trying to make the Empire community better, and those who volunteer to do so. I also appreciate supporters who make payment of servers and expansion of the community possible. However, I must ask if a zero tolerance policy regarding caps is really making the community better, or does it make the moderators look like they are abusing "power". Personally, I feel that there is a greater damage done by having a perception of moderator abuses than the occasional use of caps. For weeks I have seen other regular players kicked for ruthless enforcement of the caps rule. I have also seen the resentment of the moderators by the players when they get back on. I am in no way attempting to smear any moderator or accusing them of being a power hungry Nazi. I am simply asking all of you if a Zero Tolerance Policy on something like caps, is better for the Empire Community. Personally, I am in no way offended by the occasional use caps, and would go on record voting for common sense approach to use of caps instead of a Zero Tolerance Policy which does, in all honesty, create resentment for the staff. Maybe the Community would be better served by a rule stating 2 consecutive all caps messages are the point at which it becomes a problem. Maybe one word in caps is out of line and should not be tolerated. I am asking both mods, and members at which point are caps a problem, and at what point does the moderator appear to be abusing authority? Again, I thank all those who volunteer their time, or money to make this community possible.
  2. You're going overboard with this situation. Btw - biased poll but I vote the 3rd option. :)
  3. the ripping the button off was in humor
  4. Yea, this is a little too strict. Your saying I can't capitalized the word of the beginning of a sentence!

Im sure this would be implanted if this was a problem....
  5. I don't mind one word in caps, as it can be emphasis. It's generally when there are two or more words in caps that are in sequence that I deliver a punishment.

I really can't speak for the other Staff on this, though.

  6. I don't touch type so I look at the keyboard while I type instead of at what I am typing as I type. Occassionally I'll do the same thing where I hit enter before double checking what I've type.

The moderators should be able to tell the difference between: "I went anD SAW lOOPER THE OTHER NIGHT. oops caps.", and
"PLEASE DONATE RUPEES TO ME SO I CAN HAVE AN EPIC DROP PARTY"

The first is a mistake. The second should get a warning then a kick if it persists. This and some other things I've seen recently are a result of our complaining that there is not enough moderation in game and on the forums. We've got it now. Hopefully we can be patient while the new staff gets used to their new positions.

  7. The first one doesn't make sense, if you saw you accidently hit caps lock, why put oops caps and just fix it instead? .___.

  8. "I went anD SAW lOOPER THE OTHER NIGHT."

    "oops caps."

Better? Geez... I type, hit enter then look at the screen. I see my mistake. I type again acknowledging that it was a mistake, then hit enter again and so on.

Actually I sometimes do something like this: "I went anD SAW lOOPER THe other night.", or leave mispelled words in because I don't want to retype them.
  9. Wall o' text is very hard to read.
  10. I agree with you Pab. I saw a player threatened a few minutes ago for 3 words being capitalized in a 9 word sentence, and the player resentment that followed the the threat. I'm not sure if the caps were a bigger problem than the perceived threat. I'm just watching the chat right now
  11. Some people just see things as black and white Kimber, or don't fully understand the spirit of a rule so they have to follow them strictly. We have to have confidence that our staff can tell the difference between misbehavior and a mistake.

  12. I know, and i thought the "oops, caps" would have helped in telling the difference. But it didn't

  13. the simple fact that you haven't already ripped your caps lock key off your keyboard is a sign that you aren't serious about staying on emc. you better get out a screwdriver or whatever tool is handy and get this done immediately. if you have a touch-screen phone then you need to jam an icepick into the part of your screen that the caps button is on so you aren't tempted to touch it as well.

this has been a public service announcement
  14. I love you sgx. Just sayin. lol
  15. Crazy1080, I appreciate your opinion and the time you volunteer even if i disagree that the 2 words in caps being grounds for "punishment" . Either way, the owner has his right to run things as he chooses
  16. I might took choice 2 too serious

"

followed by the "oups caps" or "sorry caps" lol
  19. There is zero tolerance for a reason. If the staff was to let a few people get away with all caps then everyone will start doing it all the time. It's in number 5 of the rules that all caps is considered yelling and isn't tolerated. Anyone who breaks a rule should have a punishment . The rules a there to be followed all the time not just when ever someone feels like it. All you got was a kick, so I'm not sure why your complaining, especially when you argued with the mod who kicked you for quite some time and you didn't get in trouble for that, which you should have.... If you truly respected the staff then you wouldn't complain about a kick for something so small as all caps using. If you don't want to be kicked... don't break the rules. And I know you say it was an mistake to type the all caps, but do you know how many times a day the mods hear that and then the person turns around and does it again. And if they let everyone off the hook for saying they were sorry, everyone would say and then turn around an still do it. All the moderators do their job very well with keeping the craziness to a minimum on EMC. So don't complain... just don't break the rules.
