  1. So (just want to clear this up) can you state what is acceptable? Once every 2 hours? 4 hours? More/less?

I want to post "appropriate" bumps, but I (honestly) don't know what you consider to be excessive.
  2. Actually, to be more precise: I do not want to post bumps at all; but, if the rules permit them, I feel I have to, so that my auctions get the same attention as others.
  3. If you ever get reported for over doing it, we will contact you and let you know. If I post something specific like say: "Once every two hours" and someone does it in one hour and 40 minutes instead, you'll have an angry post up. :p
  4. I get you; but that leaves me trying to guess what you consider excessive - what to report, and how often to bump :-(
  5. Pausing and Un-pausing an auction thread? What in the world is that supposed to mean?

Also, saying "Don't bump" bumps the thread to the Active Thread List. For a bidder in an auction, that's like farting and giggling while playing Hide and Seek. Telling them to "shush" just makes more noise.
  6. Yes, i know. But i knew a player was going to bid anyways, so i went ahead and did it.
  7. Anything you say in a thread affects the outcome. Check this one out and tell me that the comments in this thread aren't manipulating it: http://empireminecraft.com/threads/auction-double-chest-of-emeralds.14119/

On a side note - The current winning bid includes a trade of diamonds. Is that allowed?
  8. I think when I start auctioning some stuff off, I won't bump my auctions at all. Meaning someone could get something really cheap. There is this one auction I'm currently winning, but I don't like how the auctioneer keeps begging for more bids and stating "it's worth way more than 20k". In my opinion, he should have made the starting bid 20k to begin with.
  9. Totally agree. I was going to go into that auction, saw all the comments, and left. The auction holder didnt say that diamond currency it allowed, so i would say that the bid is invalid.
  10. Just do what YOU would consider considerate. You seem to have a good grasp on keeping things to a respectable level. I'm sure if you wouldn't complain about the amount you're doing, nobody else will either.

  11. It is for this exact reason I had suggested to Aikar that we have a simple, easy to use, limited, online Interactive Auctions

-It would be set to where you can only bid an amount of rupees you currently have on you

-You could not "bump" it as for it would be a number input only

-Comments can be made on the items for getting more information on the item(s) at hand

-Commenting will not "bump" the auction to the top of the list, only posting a bid will. Thus, auction bumping will not occur

-When posting an auction, you input a minimum bid increment, and the default bid for new bids posted is set to this, and cannot be made lower than the aforementioned minimum bid increment

-The same idea behind the minimum bid increments applies to the minimum bid

-Timer is set at the posting of an auction; Once the time limit is it without bids, no more bids can be made

-Timer is located at the top of that auctions page, showing the real time amount left on that auction

It's really a simple thing, it just looks complex. Honestly it would take a few days coding, at most.

Unfortunately, Aikar denied this idea because his "superior" shop system, that wouldn't even happen for months to come, will supposedly draw people away from wanting to do auctions, thus rendering this suggestion "useless" in his eyes.

I was the reason we had the additions of rules for only posting certain content, however I did not expect them to not be enforced. That's like having a rule against stealing cake, but not punishing those who steal the cake.

  12. That's a bit rough there Rob. I noticed you have "superior" and "useless" both in quotes. I have had a few private conversations with Aikar in the past and I have a hard time believing he would say such things. In fact one of the conversations I have had with Aikar was in regards to an auction house like you describe above. I will quote his response; "Yes its possible and we will persue an official auction implementation, but we also can potentially just do it ingame."
    will_iamd and jkjkjk182 like this.
  13. When i bump my thread i try and leave long gaps between the previous comments, i can understand why some people find it annoying and i understand that maybe the bids going for a really really low price and they want to save it.
But when i bid i try and make sure it has relevance to the thread, like:
the winning bid is at 35k and that is 10.12731 per gl0wstone,
so its possibly helping the bidders understand the going price and that they are getting a great deal at that current moment.
  14. No; you've been bumping your thread a lot;

Personally, I'd call that "Excessive". But let's see what others/mods think.
  15. I don't meant to gang up on you, Jetfire, but the auction I referenced yesterday that I left was yours. I think you, as an auction holder, take on a little extra responsibility to make sure your auction goes smoothly for the people bidding on it. I felt like you were not only not in control, but were actually encouraging other people's non-bidding comments.

Here are the initial comments that caused me to leave along with some others:
I wanted to bid, but the dirt isn't in the pack D:
    haha
Now it's just junk for me :O
    y no one bid
i would... but no dirt included.
how about this, if you bid and you win you can have the dirt too XD
I would bit, but I don't have so mutch money :(
wow i would have thought there would be a lot more bids :(
I made my last bid about here with a comment about why.
There will, just wait for the US timezone
they should all be pouring on any second :3
xxx is in the lead :)
At the moment the glowstone is going for 10.70601851851852 r each

See comment #47 in this thread for the rest. In my opinion, you're welcome to strategically bump your thread to make sure it gets exposure. I know we have a lot of players all over the world. Bumping to make sure it hits the Active Threads list during Prime Time in Europe, Australia, and the US a few times is one thing. Once it starts getting bumped like yours was, I'm usually out.

Personally I think all of us have a responsibility to use our judgement to enforce rules both in game and on the Forums and that the Staff are the second level of enforcement when being nice doesn't work or when things are beyond the scope of our influence.
  16. Unfortunately, Pab10S, I think that is asking too much of the auctioners; and that's exactly why I believe the only answer is "Keep it simple" and not allow any bumps, thus giving everyone a level playing-field.

I understand, and of course I have to accept, that mods won't enforce that. But your posting here illustrates exactly why I think they should. It's not realistic to expect all auctioners to exercise appropriate control over the "number of bumps"; common-sense is not very common. That's why we need rules.

(P.S. I emphasize that I, too, am not singling-out Jetfire here except as an example of a widespread problem)
  17. No no now i look at it i realize what you are saying, im kinda new to the auction thread and i didnt find out what bumping meant until i read this thread besides that face that i was doing it unintentionally , i admit that in the last page of that thread i did do them on purpose because my my thread was on 35k and at the bottom of the auction page.
so sorry for being a bit of a noob there :)
  18. It's not your fault; you're just doing what you see others do.

The bigger point I'm trying to make is, that that method isn't helpful - ie, that it'd be far more pleasant in auctions if nobody was allowed to bump. But for now, ICC has said here that there is some (undefined) "acceptable" level. I don't think that's effective, because everyone has a different idea about what is "excessive".
