I just hope we're dealing with a real solid hollow sphere and a real living, bone and flesh bird, and not some kind of illustration on the glass, because I don't like double meaning riddles.
But to put it in you had to melt the glass to seal it. That would be damaging it. I can't imagine any way to put it in without damaging the glass.
Use a proyector, put the glass with the bird in front of it, and point it to a cloud or a wall outside. That way the protected image of the bird will appear to be outside.
