I'm thinking of building a ghast farm on EMC. I've not come across one yet other than the one where you run around many floors and pray a ghast spawns and then kill it. I have one worry though. I have another farm in a soul sand valley where you are 'supposed to' build ghast farms in vanilla. However, on EMC I rarely, if ever see ghasts there. So...anyone with a working ghast farm or knowledge of one...what biome is it built in? Extra love for anyone with additional pointers Thanks!
There is a ghast farm on SMP8 called "Scream For Me." Go north of Wild N and through the portal. There are three methods to get there: rail, ice boat, or dolphin water thing. If you have respiration III, the water method is the fastest. EDIT: this one is manual. I just woke up, so I didn't understand the post completely.
MC wiki: regarding biome question They spawn only in the basalt deltas, nether wastes, and soul sand valley biomes. they do not spawn in nether fortresses
I assume the reason you build farms for them in soul sand valleys is because that biome has the fewest other things spawning? So less spawn proofing and less non ghats spawning in the farm
I have one such private farm in a soul sand valley. With the digging of its perimeter, so far it has been a waste of one year of playtime. On Vanilla and on a paper server I set up on my machine, everything works great. On EMC, no ghasts spawn. According to chickeneer, the spawn charge/budget of the SSV and warped forest is to blame, and the fact that there are ghasts elsewhere on the server.
Many years ago a group of friends and I made one that I would consider semi-manual: There are spawn pads that filter out non-ghast mobs through a shifting floor, and whenever a ghast spawns, the player would kill them with a voter's bow from a minecart rail running beneath all the spawn floors. Similar to Fred_TWK, would not recommend. The rates are nowhere near good enough to justify the time investment.
not shure how to build a ghast farm but if im correct not shure if a perimeterwould help for spawn rates it probely prevents ghast spawns but there probely other ways
