Hey guys, was listening to music from video games to study and thought it might be cool to see people's favorite music from different games all across the board. If you want to post something, just post a link to Youtube / Spotify / something similar to the album! To start, I'll go ahead and post the obvious Game: Minecraft Link: Here I've always been a fan of the music when playing and just this year started listening to it outside of the game. It's really soothing and nice to fall asleep to or study to, in my opinion!
I'm considering how to respond to this thread... notable mentions from one soundtrack at a time? Or one enormous list of soundtracks? I feel like that with the latter, I wouldn't reach anyone. But with the first I could potentially post dozens of posts. But I would include some information on the soundtrack, and comments! What do you think, jacob?
You haven't lived until you heard the whole entire Ori and the Blind Forest OST: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTSIqhWP1gKWbtSaAFCz5erPddH--7D6L
You're mistaken. I am fairly sure I haven't listened to it yet, and yet I've lived for more than 6 years.
The soundtrack that plays while you're playing the game Valley is absolutely gorgeous. It fits so well with the environment and it feels like you're in the game yourself when you're running and jumping and swinging from hook to hook. You can listen to the soundtrack on youtube but I recommend actually playing the game to get the full effect. It's on steam and the gameplay is only about 4 hours but it's so worth it.
I use these links to play music inside of modpack minecraft https://rainwave.cc/game/#!/ It's livestream music
I'd say whatever you think fosters the most discussion! I'm always game for a big playlist to work my way through, but it's nice to get individual discussion on each one, as well. I'm looking forward to listening to all of these!
Mario music always brings a tear to my eye. It's amazing. Super Mario Galaxy Main theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcHQGiz6b8g SMG 2 Theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsyPHkeyz6o Super mario galaxy 'Bowser's galaxy reactor theme' https://youtu.be/0xPQi21NiPA SMG 2 'Final boss theme' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glzkh5jl31k SMG 'Buoy Base Galaxy theme' (Underwater version) https://youtu.be/3qLbwkkCMzE Super Mario Odyssey 'Jump up super star' https://youtu.be/PhciLj5VzOk Of course, we can't exclude the wii shop channel: https://youtu.be/8avMLHvLwRQ I'll post again or update this one as I think of or hear new ones
Very good music indeed. And I'm glad you're sharing them, as I might not be; I'd prefer sharing the lesser known soundtracks instead. Right now though, I'll start with something I was just listening to: the Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 Title Theme, composed by Allister Brimble in 2002. Chris Sawyer, who made the game, asked Allister to compose a theme that started out melancholic but became happy after some time, to accompany some pre-programmed scenes from the game engine. I love the result. (Is embedding videos okay, if it's just 1-3 per post?)
I've never seen that before, I'll try to remember to check it out later. That is very... um... I can't think of a word for it in any language I know. But it is! Very nice. It reminds me a bit of a cave theme from one of the Story of Seasons (formerly Harvest Moon) games. I'll talk about that soundtrack later. It's a great reworking of the main theme. Did you know that Koji Kondo composed this piece in a single night? During development, an arrangement of an already existing song was used for the opening. However, one day before release, the team discovered that that theme was, by a month or so, still under copyright. So Kondo-san had to create a new tune within a very short time!
As I'm just getting started here, let me post about another soundtrack. In 1992, Olof Gustaffson composed the soundtrack for the Amiga and PC game Pinball Fantasies. It, like its predecessor Pinball Dreams, contains 4 tables to play pinball on. All four have got several themes, playing at different times. But before I get to that, there's something else: while waiting for the game to load, an amazing intro theme plays. The theme is very long, so the game will have finished loading before you get too far into it, I assume (I never played it on original hardware), but it's certainly worth it to not press any buttons and just listen to the soundtrack! What a ride. As I said, the game contains 4 tables. They are called Party Land, Speed Devils, Billion Dollar Gameshow and Stones 'N Bones. These four all have a very distinct theme, and I recommend checking all of them out. However, there's one I'll share in specific, to make it more likely you'll actually listen to it: here's Party Land, the first table. I love the duck quacking in the first theme! (This video has got the left and right channel separated very far, and that might be a bit awkward to listen to using headphones, if you aren't used to it. However, some purists consider it better, as on the Amiga there was full stereo separation. It's just not great for listening with headphones, and if you'd be playing on an actual Amiga the left and right speakers would be closer together and the channels would blend a bit anyway.)
Not really anything extraordinarily inspiring/impressive, but I've been playing a ton of Fallout lately, the radio stations and songs broadcast from them add a ton of life to the world. Just a warning, Fallout is an M-rated series, so not every song in this playlist is child-friendly. Don't listen to it with any kiddos around.
Games have provided some of the most fantastic and innovative music I've ever heard. Now, I could list the classics, like the soundtrack from Sonic 2 & 3, or pretty much anything from Jeremy Soule, but I haven't seen my all-time favorites mentioned yet, so here we go: Mechwarrior 2 has perhaps some of my favorite music ever - I got the game for my birthday, back in '97, put the disk in my CD player on a whim, and I still listen to it over twenty years later. Never heard anything quite like it before or since. In particular, "Burning Chrome" (@28:14) gives me goosebumps every time. The other one I never get tired of is Ecco the Dolphin: I actually mean that - I somehow never get tired of it. I've had Ecco soundtracks on repeat/shuffle for hours, and never even noticed. You just get... lost in it.
I've never heard of that. Thanks, I'll check it out. It sounds very good so far! I'll be sure to look up composer, year, developers and such. Agreed! I recognise that observation. I'd post about another soundtrack, but I want to listen to Mechwarrior 2 now.
