  1. well if the script can kick them, take all their rupees away and items, I'd figure the script could also do the repairs but maybe that's hoping a little too much...
  2. But yes, I see what you are getting at, there should be something to "test" new players for griefing tendencies.
  3. Maybe not so extreme as exploding and killing lol, what happens if another player is in the vicinity, but maybe just not letting them join for a couple hours or so
  4. I love the way you think Gokou! Very good ideas!

A "griefing test" would be awesome!

There would be no exploding/killing though (that's kind of senseless really)... just a kick and/or a temp ban of an hour or something (that's real!)... along with possibly the removal of some or all of their rupees and/or item (that's real too). Some thought would have to go into the details of course.
  5. I only came on the server because my friends server was offline and I was bored so I came on as it wasn't White listed ended up claiming a plot and I liked it so much I stayed, doing this is defying what empire is all about ( in my opinion ) and what makes it such a popular epic server, I really can't say this is a great idea! Who agrees?
  6. You bring up a good question newo88. What is the Empire all about?

I imagine the answer will be at least a little bit different for everyone, if not completely different.

And I believe the only answer that really matters is the one by those who have created the Empire and choose to continue to provide this service to people (which is not me by the way, for those who don't know).
  7. How can it be defying what the Empire is all about, it is just a good way to test that people wont have griefer tendencies, this will enfore the very important commandment NO GRIEFING which is "part of" what the Empire is about?
  8. Ok I will try answer all your questions for you :)
The hard truth is that minecraft was a game created for all ages, I believe that the "kids" have just as much right as we do to play the multiplayer aspect of the game. I would also like to point out that there is a very powerful command you can use to ignore a player /ch ignore [playername].

This inevitably means that the supporters will be paying for a server for children, why do this when they can be apart of these servers already, and how would you control this in the first place? After all man, they are just children, we were all children once, and I actually like helping them, its always nice when you help them with something and then they come back and thank you profusely :)

This comes down to staff having real lives too, you have to respect them for actually giving away a lot of their time in the first place to do all that they do :)

Jeremy will hire mods when neccessary, no one needs to tell him to do so, I am sure he is well aware of when mods are needed :)

The tutorial on the site is a good idea and could be strongly considered. However your idea of a tutorial that is game orientated is not necessary as all this information is readily available on the minecraft wiki in a neat and succinct way :)

Yea but you got to realise that the server is only a machine, they tend to have hiccups every now and again, it already is working bloody hard just keep going 24/7 and I say it is doing a brilliant job. Hiccups like these are actually scarcely seen and hardly happen :)

I hope this answers all of your questions :)

  9. This thread is officially being hijacked! lol

    I can sum it up:

"To provide an awesome community and great experience for mature, considerate players who think the game rocks."

A little longer of a description:

Back when I started playing MC (not even 6 months ago) I enjoyed single player for a while. Then I wanted to make the jump into multi-player, so I could play with a few friends (like GameKribJEREMY). So I started searching the web and found a bunch of top sites that had nice looking MC communities. I tried maybe 20 popular servers. And every single one of them was a horrible experience. They all focused on quantity not quality. The admins and owners acted like 5 year old's. You couldn't build anything without it being griefed or the world being randomly reset. Even the somewhat decent ones lagged like crazy because they were so popular and again they valued quantity over quality and just set server limits higher and higher. Getting set on fire by flying skeletons and banned for not playing for 2 days. Having to beg moderators for protected land just to receive a 16x16. Players spawning huge bedrock walls or endless diamond blocks. It seemed to me like the owners sat down, made a list of what would make MC horrible and then implemented it! I could go on forever.

At first I got sad because in the back of my head I could see how great multi-player could be on Minecraft. Eventually I decided just to open a small private server with 3 white-list slots. It was Jeremy, myself, and a few other friends. And it turned out the idea I had was correct, this game was AWESOME multi-player. From that we formed a community and just kept improving and improving. And well we all know the story from that point, now we have Empire Minecraft!

So we will continue to focus on the quality of the Empire servers, never quantity. I will continue to try to provide the best experience possible for this epic game. If that means the community is only 5 players the so be it. If that means the community is almost 3,000 members then that's great ;), again as long as we stick with our vision and don't fall into the pit many other MC communities have.

  10. And yes, this is human nature, when something bad and unexpected happens to us, we react very negatively back towards it. After all, its just a game, there is no need to whine so much, those people just have to suck it up, its not the end of the world, and when ever something happens like this ever happens Justin is always up like a shot (even if he was asleep) to remedy it. People must just be patient. :)
  11. Yes the servers will lag a LOT when Minecraft.net is down because of how the game is coded (it locks up waiting for a response when each person tries to sign-in).

Forcing website registrations will help with players under 13, but all they have to do is put a different birth year in a box.... It is the internet and not much we can do about that.

It is not necessary to have a moderator watching over every player every minute on every server every day. How many MMO's do you play that have that? When you play WoW can you ask for a moderator and one just appears ready to chat and help you 1 on 1? The secret is putting the power in the players hands. Use /ignore, don't give people permissions in your res. If you need support ask on the forums. Report habitual trouble makers. I honestly don't know where so many Minecraft players got the idea that a personal staff member was going to sit next to them.
Another analogy would be XBL. have you ever seen a "staff" member even once? What happens if you get in a game with someone talking bad or causing trouble? You click them and ignore them. If it is really bad you report them. And its done end of story you solved your own problem.

Also I am not attacking you SillyMommaMoose, just using your ideas to convey some ideas of my own :)

    /rant ;)

  12. Great stuff Justin! I have never really known of all that history behind this server! That is very interesting for me and I am sure many others :) I shall be saving that post to a word document to quote from in the future :) That is if you don't mind?
  13. haha sure, I should make up a nicer one and put it on the site somewhere at some point, that was kind of a rant that I didn't read over

  14. haha no worries :) And that would be a good idea for sure, I am not sure if others feel this way, but knowing the history this server has would be very interesting to know :)
  15. Haha! I had it precisly the same way when I started!
  16. This is because while we are mods "in-game" we aren't forum moderators. The staff list on the site is just that, a staff list for the site.
  17. I think what he means slo is if you type /who there is a staff section :)
  18. Yeah thanks for the reminder I need to fix that.
  19. I think this is a great change. Hopefully it will help stop spammers and people who aren't really committed to the EMC community. I was on smp3 last night when people started having problems with logins. it was so peaceful with <10 people online. no arguments in chat, good advice, good questions... I mean lots of activity in chat is usually fun, but it was nice to have people who were really committed and helpful around and not being drowned out.

  20. First off sorry for the wrong choice of gender. Secondly, as Jeremy hires new people there will eventually be enough moderators that can cover all servers and all timezones. This will take some time though as Jeremy prides himself in hiring the best.
