[Suggestion] Anti Grief - Protect Water Blocks!

Discussion in 'Suggestion Box Archives' started by finch_rocks_1, Dec 11, 2016.

  1. Hey EMC,

Have you made a Farm, or a Island, or even a water fall, but have people Grief that all the time?

This suggestion would protect the water placed so players cant take it away, or make a mess you have to clean up every week....

  2. I think this is a job for Empires.

Once Aikar implements this "Empire" thing, I think most problems will be fixed.

  3. Yes, but the empires does not always work, as many have public farms/builds that are too close to spawn to claim... What about those players? Is this EMC's way of saying, too bad?
  4. Alright, somewhat convinced. Would it just protect the source block?

Only downside I can think of is if people remove it via lava.
  5. It would have to protect the blocks that where placed and spread across it you are making say a river/waterfall/or thoes very large farms.

Lava would be fine, as you can simply replace it, I have yet to see anyone think of using lava, Just placing blocks to fill in the water...
  6. I don't think it matters with the water or not.

Using buildmode does protect the dirt and the food from being broken. However you can still jump on top of the planted food and the food will be uprooted while the tilled dirt will revert back to plain dirt.

  7. But those are not effected by Water Blocks....

Think of all those Public Farms with Water Pathways, or Builds, people have that include water very close to spawn.

I have a Public Farm Hub on smp6 walking distance from spawn, and every week I am in the rivers and ponds cleaning up blocks people placed to fill in the water....

Once Empires come out, yes it will protect those far out outposts, but when its a place you can protect, you rely on buildmode to protect your stuff otherwise...

    Here is an example of my Public Farm Hub right beside spawn;

All those rivers, and ponds you see, I am always fixing them. (Everything else is protected but not water).
  8. I think this is an interesting problem. I haven't experimented with the new block protections but what happens when a Creeper explodes? Can your protected blocks be destroyed or mined by the explosion? Is it possible that many of the messes that are being created are from players moving through the area and the explosions are tearing the terrain up?

If I "own" a couple of Water blocks and they create another Water block, do I own it also? Can another player pick it up, and if so, can they place it again afterwards?

Not protecting the created blocks would allow me to have a well that other players could use and yet keep them from taking the original blocks that are needed for perpetual water. On the other hand, this would force someone doing a pond to place every single block.
What happens when a Water source block is placed by one player and the flowing water from it is gong somewhere another player doesn't like?

I've made an Ice farm where I had 20 Water source blocks on the North-South axis and 20 more on the East-West axis and meeting at one corner. When I lowered the Pistons separating them, Water blocks were created in a ripple from the corner outwards. If I own the source blocks, and the new Water blocks, how about the resulting Ice blocks?

Protecting Water leads to consideration of Lava. Water/Lava -> Cobblestone, Stone, or Obsidian are similar situations to Ice formation. How should these work if the source blocks are protected?
  9. As long as you build your place in Buildmode, all your blocks are protected from Players and Mobs, as well as Natural Fire and so much More. Stuff from Blocks down to the very Grass and flowers that are placed.

As for the water being tuned from the use of Lava, Could you not have it so if a player places Lava on protected water, the water blocks would stay water and the lava would act as if it was a normal block?
  10. Kind of changes the natural physics of things, doesn't it? I'm inclined to think we should protect the bounding blocks that are holding Water rather than the Water itself. Or just protect placed Water blocks but not ones generated by source blocks.
  11. I suppose many people like the "natural" look of having an open terrain around their farms, but I feel like the simple truth is that the best way to protect a farm is by surrounding it with solid building blocks. Perhaps even glass, to give it a better ambiance? The solid blocks will prevent players from entering the area and the farm stays intact. I guess what I am trying to say is that I don't see an easy way to protect fluid blocks without creating many of the aforementioned problems (i.e. water flowing into areas that aren't yours)

  12. There is still an issue, Take my Public Farm Hub for example, Its a Custom Biome, that I cant wall off, as its a Designed Hub, I want players to be inspired and enjoy it. But I am getting tired of the cleaning up of people filling in my rivers and ponds. I cant put the build in a glass dome, as it would defeat the purpose of what the build is.

If there is some protected water running somewhere someone did not want, you can easily contact a Moderator to come on and look into the issue, and see how to fix/and or remove it if needed.
