  1. So basically i come here today to talk about all my knowledge of mythical creatures some even included in legends like Bigfoot, unicorns, etc.. do you believe in mythical creatures? I will be describing some of these mythical creatures below! Note: this information is off google, mythology websites, and some knowledge from my brain :p

    #1 Dragon:
"The dragon is a legendary creature of which some interpretation or depiction appears in almost every culture worldwide. The physical description and supposed abilities of the creature vary immensely according to the different cultures in which it appears. However, the unifying feature of almost all interpretations is it being a serpentine or otherwise reptilian monster (or at least possessing a serpentine/reptilian part or trait), and often possessing magical or spiritual qualities.
Dragons are usually shown in modern times with a body like a big lizard, or a snake with two pairs of lizard-type legs, and able to emit fire from its mouth. The European dragon has bat-type wings growing from its back. A dragon-like animal with no front legs and walking only on its back legs is a wyvern. Following discovery of how pterosaurs walked on the ground, some dragons have been drawn using the wings as front legs pterosaur-fashion when on the ground, as in this image and in the movie Reign of Fire.
Like most mythological creatures, dragons are perceived in different ways by different cultures. Dragons are sometimes said to breathe and spit fire or poison. They are commonly portrayed as serpentine or reptilian, hatching from eggs and possessing typically feathered or scaly bodies. They are sometimes portrayed as having large yellow or red eyes, a feature that is the origin for the word for dragon in many cultures. They are sometimes portrayed with a row of dorsal spines, keeled scales, or leathery bat-like wings. Winged dragons are usually portrayed only in European dragons while Oriental versions of the dragon resemble large snakes. Dragons can have a variable number of legs: none, two, four, or more when it comes to early European literature. Modern depictions of dragons tend to be larger than their original representations, which were often smaller than humans."

    #2 Phoenix:
"A phoenix is a mythical bird with a tail of beautiful gold and red plumage (or purple and blue, by some sources [1]). It has a 600-800 year life-cycle, and near the end the phoenix builds itself a nest of cinnamon twigs that it then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises, reborn anew to live again. The new phoenix is destined to live as long as its old self. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of its old self in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egypt city of Heliopolis (sun city in Greek). The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible — it is also said that it can heal a person with a tear from its eyes and make them temporarily immune to death; a symbol of fire and divinity.
The phoenix is a central figure in Lebanese ancient and modern cultures, as Lebanese are descendants of the Phoenicians and often claim themselves sons of the Phoenix. Lebanon, and Beirut particularly, is often depicted symbolically as a phoenix bird having been destroyed and rebuilt 7 times during its long history.
The phoenix in the Forbidden City, Beijing, China. In China, Fenghuang ("鳳凰") is a mythical bird superficially similar to the phoenix. It is the second most-respected legendary creature (second to the dragon), largely used to represent the empress and females. The phoenix is the leader of birds. In Japan, the phoenix is called hō-ō(kanji:"鳳凰") or fushichō (不死鳥, fushichō?); "Immortal Bird"."

    #3 Chimera:
"In Greek mythology, the Chimera (Greek Χίμαιρα (Chímaira); Latin Chimaera) was a monstrous creature of Lycia in Asia Minor, composed of the parts of multiple animals. The Chimera was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna and a sibling of such monsters as Cerberus and the Lernaean Hydra.

Homer's brief description in the Iliad[1] is the earliest surviving literary reference: "a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle,[2] and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire".[3] Hesiod's Theogony follows the Homeric description: he makes the Chimera the issue of Echidna: "She was the mother of Chimaera who breathed raging fire, a creature fearful, great, swift-footed and strong, who had three heads, one of a grim-eyed lion; in her hinderpart, a dragon; and in her middle, a goat, breathing forth a fearful blast of blazing fire. Her did Pegasus and noble Bellerophon slay"[4] The author of the Bibliotheca concurs:[5] descriptions agree that it breathed fire. The Chimera is generally considered to have been female (see the quotation from Hesiod above) despite the mane adorning its lion's head. Sighting the Chimera[citation needed] was an omen of storms, shipwrecks, and natural disasters (particularly volcanoes).

While there are different genealogies, in one version the Chimera mated with her brother Orthrus and mothered the Sphinx and the Nemean Lion (others have Orthrus and their mother, Echidna, mating; most attribute all to Typhon and Echidna).

The Chimera was finally defeated by Bellerophon, with the help of Pegasus, at the command of King Iobates of Lycia. Since Pegasus could fly, Bellerophon shot the Chimera from the air, safe from her heads and breath.[6] A scholiast to Homer adds that he finished her off by equipping his spear with a lump of lead that melted when exposed to the Chimera's fiery breath and consequently killed her, an image drawn from metalworking."

    #4 Huli Jing

"Huli jing (Chinese: 狐狸精; Pinyin: húli jīng; huli means fox, and jing means spirit) in Chinese mythology are fox spirits that are akin to European faeries. Huli jing can be either good spirits or bad spirits.
In Chinese mythology, it is believed that all things are capable of acquiring human forms, magical powers, and immortality, provided that they receive sufficient energy, in such forms as human breath or essence from the moon and the sun.

The fox spirits encountered in tales and legends are usually females and appear as young, beautiful women. One of the most infamous fox spirits in Chinese mythology was Daji (妲己), who is portrayed in the Ming novel Fengshen Yanyi. A beautiful daughter of a general, she was married forcibly to the cruel tyrant Zhou Xin (紂辛 Zhòu Xīn). A nine-tailed fox spirit who served Nüwa, whom Zhou Xin had offended, entered into and possessed her body, expelling the true Daji's soul. The spirit, as Daji, and her new husband schemed cruelly and invented many devices of torture, such as forcing righteous officials to hug red-hot metal pillars.[1] Because of such cruelties, many people, including Zhou Xin's own former generals, revolted and fought against Zhou Xin's dynasty, Shang. Finally, King Wen of Zhou, one of the vassals of Shang, founded a new dynasty named after his country. The fox spirit in Daji's body was later driven out by Jiang Ziya (姜子牙), the first Prime Minister of the Zhou Dynasty and her spirit condemned by Nüwa herself for excessive cruelty.

Typically fox spirits were seen as dangerous, but some of the stories in Pu Songling's Liaozhai Zhiyi are love stories between a fox appearing as a beautiful girl and a young human male."

    #5 Kitsune
"Kitsune (kitsu: sound of fox's yelp, ne: signifies an affectionate feeling). The fox of Japanese legend is said to possess supernatural powers, including the power of transformation, and to be mischievous. The fox is also known for assuming the form of a human or bewitching them, many times to tempt or seduce them. The "kyubi kitsune" or nine-tailed fox are the most powerful and oldest of all foxes. Foxes of legend are many kinds: white, celestial, wild, and many others.

The fox is known as a messenger of Inari, the God of Rice, and to be mischievous. It is said to possess supernatural powers, including the power of transformation. These messengers were white foxes and thought to be invisible to humans. Though this was not always the case as at the Suwa shrine in the winter, the guardian fox had to cross the lake first so that people knew it would be safe for them to do so after.

Japan and China are not the only countries with fox legends in the East. Similar legends of the fox appear in Korean folklore as well, though with slightly less of a friendly reputation. The nine-tailed fox or Kumiho holds many of the same traits: ability to transform (usually into a young girl), bewitchment. In the tales, unlike the Japanese counterpart, the kumiho is known to do harm, and thus is a more malicious creature. Unlike the Japanese fox which has a reputation not just as a trickster, but also a whimsical side."

  4. I was walking down the street one day, just another normal Tuesday in New York. I was trying to get to the mailbox to send a package out to some family from out of state when I was stopped by a man in a blue tracksuit. The man had a raspy voice and I couldn't make out his face too well since he had a hood on, but I could tell there was something off about him.

So the man starts by asking me what I'm up to, how's my day going, just normal conversation starters. But then I got a bit freaked out when he asked if I had any spare change on me. I was taken back a bit but I figured this man was harmless and took out my wallet to see how I can help him out.

After asking how much he needed, the man replied excitedly, "I need about tree fiddy".

Well it was about this time I noticed that this man was about 8 stories tall and was a crustacean from the protozoic era!

This was my first time encounter with the lochness monster, but I knew how to reply. "No lochness monster I'm not gonna give you no damn tree fiddy!"

And that's the only mythical creature I believe in.
  5. I like to think this is a real thing

    ThunderBird
The Thunderbird is a legendary creature in North American indigenous peoples' history and culture. It's considered a "supernatural" bird of power and strength. It is especially important, and richly depicted, in the art, songs and oral histories of many Pacific Northwest Coast cultures, but is also found in various forms among the peoples of the American Southwest and Great Plains. Thunderbirds were major components of the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex of American prehistory.
The Thunderbird's name comes from that common belief that the beating of its enormous wings causes thunder and stirs the wind. The Lakota name for the Thunderbird is Wakį́yą, a word formed from kįyą́, meaning "winged," and wakhą́, "sacred." The Kwakwaka'wakw have many names for the Thunderbird and the Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) called him Kw-Uhnx-Wa. The Ojibwa word for a thunderbird that is closely associated with thunder is animikii, while large thunderous birds are known as binesi.
Across many North America indigenous cultures, the Thunderbird carries many of the same characteristics. It is described as a large bird, capable of creating storms and thundering while it flies. Clouds are pulled together by its wingbeats, the sound of thunder made by its wings clapping, sheet lightning the light flashing from its eyes when it blinks, and individual lightning bolts made by the glowing snakes that it carries around with it. In masks, it is depicted as many-colored, with two curling horns, and, often, teeth within its beak.

  10. Due to it being relevant in almost many cultures across the world I think that at one point there was a animal like a dragon. My guess is it a was dinosaur that got exaggerated of time. I don't think it could breath fire, or was magical but I do believe there was an animal, which was very dangerous and feared so stories from that got told. For the rest of them I am of the opinion that they all were created to explain things where they didn't understand(Or created through that pursuit, like the Chimera, which I believe was created as a backstory to greek mythology). This is all my opinion, and I would love to hear others thoughts on this.
  11. Alright, I'm going to tell you a few stories my dad has told me. I don't know if you would include these in mythical creatures, but here we go. First of all, I'll let you know a bit about my dad. He is incredibly religious. While I am not, I understand what he believes and the level at which he believes it. Saying that, my dad is very skeptical of supernatural/otherworldly things. My sister has said on multiple times she's seen a ghost and he sort of rolls his eyes at her. I say this to let you know how skeptical of a person he is.
Okay, first story. This happened when my dad was in his early 20s. Him and some friends were hanging out at a state park near a river swimming and such. Near the park, there are restrooms you can use and my dad's cousin went to use one of them. While he was in there, a guy approached my dad and said "Your cousin almost died." My dad, confused, asked the man what he meant. The only response the man gave was "If you want to die, go inside that bathroom." The guy then told my dad he had powers. My dad says the guy turned his face and for some reason he all of a sudden looked like a female. The guy then left. So, my dad's cousin comes out of the bathroom a few minutes later and says he heard a deep growling sound inside the bathroom, but no one else was there. He didn't think much of it at the time, but when my dad told him what the guy said, of course it freaked them both out. Okay, so flash forward a year to when my parents started dating. My dad sees the same man that said he had powers while they're on a date. So, he tells my mom the story and as soon as he says the guy's name, the guy stands up from the opposite side of the restaurant and looks around as if he's heard his name. My dad obviously didn't yell it. As I said, my dad is a huge skeptic, but to this day he hates saying the man's name out loud.
The second story is a little less believable, in my opinion, but I believe my dad believes what he saw. We live in Arkansas where there are obviously tons of trees, forests, mountains, etc. My dad used to hunt a lot and would go to the middle of the woods and find a place to position himself. On one particular occasion, he had crossed a wide stream to get to where he wanted to position himself. The stream is important because it took him a good 5 minutes or so to cross it. He stayed until it was almost night time, then decided to pack up his things and head home. As he looked toward the way home, he noticed the silhouette of something very tall. The weeds had grown up at least 5 feet he said, and whatever this was towered above them. He decided to take another route home because he didn't want to approach whatever it was. As soon as my dad took a step in the other direction, the thing started running towards him and got across the stream in a matter of seconds. He got out of the woods before he ever saw what it was, but he said he has never been so scared in his life. We tease him about thinking its Bigfoot since it was standing, but we'll never know.
Last story. My dad (for insane reasons I'll never know) went with some friends 4-wheeling through the woods at night. They were deep in the woods where no one should've been when a man dressed in a white robe stepped in front of them on the path they were taking. The man said "You aren't allowed to be here." When one of my dad's friends questioned why they couldn't be there, the man told the friend "Follow me." Again, insane reasons I'll never know, the friend followed the man. My dad says when the friend came back, his face was pale and he looked frightened and sick. He told my dad and the other friends they needed to leave immediately. My dad says they turned around to drive away and he turned to look back and the guy in the white robe had glowing red eyes. The friend never said where he had gone and what scared him so bad.

    The end!

  12. Sorry for the double post, but I wasn't sure if I had room. This is my story lol. I used to work at a nursing home overnights checking on the residents throughout the night. One of my jobs was to take out some of the residents' trash to the dumpster which was behind the nursing home at the back of the parking lot. Somewhat next to the nursing home is a very old house that's kept up for historical reasons I'm not sure of. As I was walking to the dumpster, I saw the silhouette of what looked like a huge dog sitting and it felt like it was staring at me. I'm 5ft. tall, and whatever this was seemed to be quite a bit taller than me. It "watched" me the whole way to the dumpster. When I walked back towards the building, it was gone. About a year later, I was working nights at a hotel. We have security cameras to see down hallways, the lobby, and pool area. The pool room had been closed and locked a couple hours when a co-worker of mine noticed something on the camera. She took a picture of it to show me, cause I wasn't there to see it, and it looked like the silhouette of a huge dog standing on its hind legs in the corner of the pool room. No one could've got in there without us unlocking the door, and certainly not a huge dog without us knowing. I still have the picture on a flash drive somewhere but it creeps me out how similar the silhouettes were. Also, don't google demon dogs lol.

  18. I've studied myths and legends for 8 years now, but more importantly the creatures within these myths and how they interacted with people in the myths. I can tell you about many creatures, many of you may have not even have heard of. I myself will only contribute to this thread if there is any creatures any of you would like to learn about.

But for now I will leave you with a small story. Our neighbours parent's died in the house they currently live in and ever since then mysterious things have occurred there. In the tool shed things mysteriously disappear into obscure locations that they shouldn't be, such as when his hammer was in the ceiling. Of course then there was the experience I had that I still won't tell my neighbours about. I saw an old man and a girl by the tool shed at night, it was quite odd. When I said hello, they simply walked away. 3 weeks later when visiting I saw a picture of a girl, I asked who it was since I knew it wasn't their grandkids, he told me was his mother when she was younger, that girl was the same girl I saw 3 weeks ago.

Surprisingly this actually all happened and the tools moving around still happens. We're watching their house this week and who knows what strange things will occur.

  19. Sounds like ghosts, spooky :p Now I have a story to share, actually 2!

2 years ago our class had a over night field trip to Gettysburg. When it became night we were doing this ghost thing with some guy and he brought us to a supposably haunted house that was worn down a lot. He told us a story about the house and said some girl named Kathryn died in there and it freaked me out since thats my name XD The guy said that some people report seeing a female in the window when they take a picture of it. Everyone started taking photos of the window and when i took a photo of the window, in the house was a female woman in a white rob or dress with dark hair standing there and she was somewhat transparent. It was really creepy, even the parents were freaked out by my photo. If I find it ill post it here. And that night at the hotel we stayed in I heard whispering. I coudnt make out the words but i did make out something saying "its her" creepy right? XD

    Story 2:

In my old school during a summer program I did there we used to always go to the gym to mess around and doing sporty stuff but one day everyone stayed in the cafeteria and told me and my BFF Lydia and my other friend Joe to get the keys out of main office to unlock the gym door and get the lights turned on. When we get the keys and go to unlock the door it was very dark and I told them I felt a heavy presence and I didnt know why. So we wander in to find the switch to turn the lights on since there not automatic and I wander to the middle of the gym. When i was there i though I saw a shadow moving against the bleachers and i was freaked out. Everyone else was on the other side of them gym looking. I stayed still there and suddenly the lights turned on going in a zig zag way from the left corner coming straight at me. I screamed and my friends saw this to and they also screamed and we ran to the door to get out but when we got to the door but i was a step behind with Lydia. Joe ran out but when Lydia and I got there we couldnt open the doors it was either locked or something was pulling it back. So we run to the escape door and get out but before we did there was a thump right behind us. We went back to the cafeteria freaked out and no one believed us. From that day on I would never go in the gym when it was dark or alone and here comes a really creepy part. This year i went back to the same summer program and I was still a little shaky going near the gym but when we walked to the gym door all together me and my friend Gabby were in the front and when we reached the door we heard something whisper "she's back" that moment I told everyone lets go outside instead XD

Well now i feel all light headed irl writing this welp ik this might make me sound like a wimp but im 12.5 years old and im now officially scared of the dark, well not really the dark but whats in the dark...
  20. Bigfoot is actually chewbacca.
