If you're a 'no mods person' then this won't help, but I reccomend Rei's minimap and its death points 'on'. That way when you die, you probably won't lose all of your stuff because you know where it is, and you'll also know how to get back to spawn, go back to that cool cave you found earlier, or find your base.
