  1. You know, when I was watching Finding Dory, I felt it would never end. This movie could've ended an hour earlier than it did, but it's the first I've seen that's managed to keep it interesting while forcing the plot to continue.
  2. I think that with what you are describing it would have been impossible to make a star wars movie that would have kept the old star wars fan statisfied. Movies in general are just not so special anymore like you are describing in that post.

  3. That's a fair point but I did think both The Force Awakens and Rogue One were quality films. Anyway, I've pretty much said my fill. Thanks for the replies.

  4. Han Solo dies by a lightsaber and a falls into a pit like Darth Maul without the being sliced in half part. If you think, well he could've survived the inflicted wound and falling down the pit into some water... Think again because the planet freaking exploded afterwards.
  5. Bump, still want to hear any other insights people might have into this movie.
  6. I'm going to step back into this thread briefly to point out an interesting observation. Here are the current film critic vs. general audience percentage positive ratings for all of the major Star Wars movies from Rottentomatoes.com.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
    Critics- 93% Audience- 96% (+3)

Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back
    Critics- 94% Audience- 97% (+3)

Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
    Critics- 80% Audience- 94% (+14)

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
    Critics- 55% Audience- 59% (+4)

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
    Critics- 66% Audience- 57% (-9)

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
    Critics- 79% Audience- 65% (-14)

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens
    Critics- 93% Audience- 88% (-5)

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    Critics- 85% Audience- 87% (+2)

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
    Critics- 91% Audience- 48% (-43)

All of them are relatively closely aligned except the most recent release.

  7. Woah, what happened with the audience on The Last Jedi? :D This is cool, thanks for sharing this!
  8. Apologies up front. I know this thread is dated, I know what I said before (and I meant it, I honestly think that I'm wasting my time right now) but.... I just learned something right now and it got me passionate, in a negative way. To be perfectly honest I feel plain out insulted and attacked and as such I needed an outlet. I figured this place is most deserving of it.

Previously I mentioned that I considerd the Last Jedi to be a good action movie but not necessarily a good Star Wars story. Now I'd like to change my previous comment.

I now think that the Last Jedi is one of the worst Star Wars movies ever produced and I think it's a plain out (intended) insult to all the fans who lived the original trilogy. Note: female and male alike.

Harsh words, I know. Film maker / producer / I dunno: Star Wars big shot J.J. Abrahams had this to say:

"Star Wars 'fans' who din't like the Last Jedi are 'threatened' by female characters"

    What. the. <censored>.

The reasons why I disliked this movie (read: called it "not a good star wars movie") didn't have anything to do with gender but more so with plot inconsistencies, weak story telling, and pure insanity. The rebels are our enemies, oh, look, there is one now: let's hear him out and not shoot him. OMG, the fleet stopped near that planet, we'll just ignore all those escape pods going down the surface and wonder wth?

But most of all (honest): apparently captain Phasma is a female. I was never aware until the force apparently turned female (errr? Isn't the force the universal power wielded equally?). Yet... why did he have to go out in such an abominable way? It made no sense, at all. Male, female, chrome dome. I don't care one single bit: that was pathetic. Not to mention the ability to gather an army at the blink of an eye.

So I now think this movie is total garbage. And why? No, not because of a female lead. Not necessarily of a bad storyline, but because the producers apparently deemed it necessary to insult the fans of the franchise over this.

It is the general rule, and DO look up your history to see what I mean: when you're hit with criticism just insult the critics and hope for the best. This has happened so many times with so many products.

But seriously: how fragile (read: plain out bad) does your product have to be if it can't stand one ounce of positive criticism?

I will have you fanboys (JJ Abrahams) know that I for example love the Ahsoka character, and bought the whole Rebels series (partly) because of it (the rest goes for being an awesome story).

So let me guess.. the next time I get a critical comment about one of my guides on the Empire I should respond with: "you just didn't understand what this guide was all about, you're probably afraid of the changes in the upcoming 1.13 version".

That is just so much bad nonsense that it's not even funny anymore.

FOR the record... No.. I am not one of "those "fans"" who now can't talk about anything else but Last Jedi, Kennedy, Abrahams and apparently the upcoming movie Solo. Honest: I couldn't care less! I honestly learned that Solo was about to premiere when looking for comfirmation that this abominable tweet I mentioned above was actually posted and not (as so many things): just a copied rumor.

I enjoy Star Wars, I even saw Phantom Menace 3 times in a row in the cinemas but I also decided "not for me" and got the rest on DVD instead. I'm still not a big fan of the prequels (I think Anakin's conversion is rushed and cramped up in 1 movie). But I still enjoy them.

Heck: I even think it's bad how Padme went from a strong independant senator to a giggling hair combing flat (story wise) character in Revenge of the Sith. She hardly does anything. "I think we should..."?

Apparently I am threatened by women but I still root for Ashoka Tano and think that Padme was portrait poorly in Revenge of the Sith and should have been stronger. Not only that, I have back up from my gf (who happens to be female) and although I sometimes can be scared of her ( :D ) even she feels that the Last Jedi doesn't weigh up at all against a movie such as Aliens II (which I also happen to admire). Ripley ftw!

How does THAT add up JJ Abrahams?

... wait... didn't Aliens II also have a female lead protagonist? Am I just confused here or is JJ Abrahams the biggest biggot moron of the year?

    </rant>

yeah, I'm seriously done with this biggot sob story.

  9. Huge Star Wars fan here and I wanted to share my opinion. It's strange how it's considered so controversial these days. After I walked out of the theater, my friends and I were like, "That was an amazing movie." I think since SW fans are so hardcore; they watched a bunch of reviews that critiqued the minor stuff about TLJ. Then in about few days, everyone jumped on the bandwagon and started attacking Johnson. I don't understand these people who say their childhood is ruined after one movie..

Anyway, I thought it was 10x better than TFA. For me personally, The Force Awakens was a point-by-point copy of ANH in the original SW. The hyperspace ramming moment was super epic even if it ruined the strategy of previous battles in SW (Scarif, Endor, Courscant). The lightsaber fight scene in the throne room was visually awesome. I actually liked Rose, a person of small rank that ends up being a major character. Even for Kylo Ren, TLJ turned the character, which I hated in TFA, to some cool connection with Rey, a conflicting dynamic present during the movie.
However, the casino scene was really strange and didn't feature previous SW aliens. It felt like a generic sci-fi area with some random, unmemorable aliens. I just don't really like the sequel trilogy in general, though. Empire vs Rebels again. Especially with the sequel trilogy, TFA and TLJ take place in about a week or so. The other trilogies took place over decades. Since TFA and TLJ are so confined, it makes the galaxy seem small and tiny.

My ranking? TLJ is better than the prequels and TFA, but not anything else.
