Risk of desertification spreading into the eastern U.S.

  1. I saw on multiple maps recently that a moderate risk of desertification has started to spread into some of the Southeastern U.S., the risk of which is moderate. Dallas-Fort Worth, TX and Memphis, TN-AR-MS would be among the major metropolitan areas negatively affected.

  2. Also, if such a desert forms in that location, what would it most likely be named, and what would the dominant vegetation there most likely be (steppe, xeric shrubland, arid palm forest, arid coniferous forest, etc.)?
