PSA: Mods could be compromised by malware

Computer security researchers say that they have uncovered that cybercriminals have succeeded in embedding malware named "Fracturizer" within packages and plugins used to modify the behaviour and appearance of the phenomenally popular game.
As Bleeping Computer reports, hackers compromised accounts at modding platforms CurseForge and Bukkit to inject Fracturizer into a number of widely-used plugins for the game.
Plugins with similar malware have reportedly been found as early as mid-April 2023.

Hey there, I'm glad you posted this. I'm one of the members of the Fractureiser mitigation team as a result of being an administrator for Modrinth. The most recent information can be found at https://github.com/fractureiser-investigation/fractureiser#readme.

Files on both CurseForge and Modrinth have now been confirmed to be safe from this specific attack, but it's worth keeping in mind that there is an inherent risk with downloading and running anything on the internet. Please always be wary and vigilant when downloading mods, regardless of from where.
