placement of shop signs

  1. I am trying to figure out if this is a bug or not.

An access sign must be placed on top of the chest to work.
A shop sign can be placed on top or on the face of the chest to work.
Why won't shop signs that buy from the player work on the front of the chest on the second row, on top of other chests? Sell shop signs will work just fine. As shown below:

  2. Is there any error message? What does it say?

    I couldn't reproduce it, but that's because I don't know exact criteria.

It could be a mechanism to prevent shop sign abuse. Some were implemented many years ago IIRC

  3. Not a bug. That is just how they work. One of those things we can't change due to existing shops. (Cannot have them switch which chest they point to arbitrarily)
607, KatydidBuild and AlexC__ like this.
  4. interesting. It will sell from that chest, but not buy from it.
I will make sure all of my signs are located ontop to counteract the arbitrary 'sign to chest' relationship.
  5. Buy and sell use the same chest detection...
First checks for a container below. Then the block it is attached to. Then other adjacent blocks
    607 and KatydidBuild like this.
  6. So the 2nd level chest's signs are always going to the chest below it first, if stacked like stairs.
    That makes more sense.

    Thanks.
  7. It still isn't clear why you could make a sell sign, but not a buy sign. :p I guess that if you make a sell sign, it would be selling granite from the chest below? But why wouldn't a buy sign work?
