Nether Portal Issues

Discussion in 'Empire Help & Support' started by Drakhelm, Dec 18, 2017.

  1. Hello,

So, got a bit of an interesting problem.

    Constructed a portal into the Nether on SMP9 at ~ 9278, 85, -948.

Instead of coming out at ~ 1159, y, -118 (Nether)

    It comes out at ~ 1185, 120, -72.3 (Nether)

    The portal at 1185, 120, -72.3 comes out at ~ 9278, 85, -586 (Overworld.)

Is this a bug? Or is it something else?

    Thank you,

    Drakhelm
  2. Is this the Wasteland or the Frontier? I'm assuming the Frontier but I'm going to share the complete story anyway.

There are several things which could have happened.

First: in the wastelands the 1:8 ratio has been disabled. So you roughly end up around the same coordinates as you started, but sometimes it's also a little bit off. Even so, generally speaking, you won't gain an advantage by traveling faster in the Nether than in the Overworld.

Second: When you activate a portal / step through it then it will first check for any existing portals before sending you through. The radius is approx. 128 block. So: is it possible that the other portal already existed? Because that would explain the coordinate offset.
