GUIDE: Starting/Maintaining a Shop

You don't want to have the lowest or best prices. You want to be the guy that has everything in stock all the time. The go guy to buy when someone can't find what they need. Fair Prices / Always in stock is what you should be shooting for.

Suppliers are not only looking for the highest pay , but convenience as well.

This price thing goes both ways. As a buyer, many people will say "Anybody have wooden planks" And then if someone says a reasonable price like 10r a stack the person goes "I only have 5r" And argues all day because they are too lazy to go out and chop a few trees or make a shop. DONT try to negotiate with these people, they will most likely stop you from getting a good income and will whine and complain if you don't give it to them for that price. This kind of thing mostly happens in the month before a server's economy starts up. In SMP6, I see a lot of this as people are still mega noobs and good shop owners haven't moved here yet.

A good thing to have in a shop regardless of specialty: Wooden Planks and Cobblestone. I find these are the #1 and 2 MOST ASKED FOR material in EMC, so you should have like 5 stacks of each on hand and near the front. Focus on specialty, superstores are for advanced players who can hire people to stock their items. I, for example have a Nature Shop. I sell saplings, logs, animal eggs, plants and seeds, and Wooden Planks. This is a great starter setup for beginners, and is easy to restock if you just breed animals and replant trees and farms. Weapon shops do well too, as i have noticed.

Couldnt agree more! Doesnt make it any easier when newbies complain that my prices are high because they want something for practically NOTHING. "So and so sells it for ____" But how weird? Youre shopping here? Might that be because "so and so" who sells so cheap is sold out of everything? Hmmm, how strange..

Either way, I've gotten comfortable will my own ability to research and price my items... thing is, they fluxuate, so I have to keep tweeking them... But I spend WAAYY too much time looking around and writing down other shop prices to be completely lost on how much to price something.. but thanks for the offer.

Ya i just hadn't dealt in redstone. Im pretty good price wise on anything else, i keep myself updated on prices.

Hmm… and does this apply all kilmannan? By that I mean does that apply to on smp7?

The amount of knowledge in this thread is astounding. Makes me wanna go start a shop...or maybe ill finish my first shop? Or maybe i'll become a supplier? Or maybe I'll spend more time looking for people selling cobblestone, its in really short supply, I'm willing to pay like 20r a stack now! (HINT HINT WINK WINK)

NEVER trust maddogz433 or the creepermart. He and I have clashed and he reported me twice for no reason. I was trying to tell him something and he just has no since of humor. I reported him, as well and then he just started going at me with a bunch fo lies.

Here is another tip: Never, Ever, EVER sell higher than the empire shop. I saw a guy the other day doing that. And guess what? He had the nerve to complain everyone was UNDERCUTTING HIM. Needless to say, Iaughed right in his face. I tried to explai. What he was doing wrong, but he wouldn't listen. Finnaly he total mad, he just tore down his shop.
