Oh, sorry, I should have specified... I'm not really... leaving, I'm just taking an (indeterminately) long break from playing the game, though I plan to continue to frequent the forum in my gaming absence.
So, just to give people an idea of how this will work, I'll post an example output from the program I've written to pick winners. I will be releasing the source code after the drawing has been accomplished, so if anyone's interested in the mechanics, you may have a look see. When the actual drawing is taking place, I will be posting these outputs as well, in the other thread. The program picks 3 numbers at random, then checks if anyone has an exact match (which usually isn't the case, obviously) and if so, announces the winner at that point. If there is no exact match, distance is calculated for all players, and the program then prints the 10 shortest distances. (Because why not?) It then prints that the winner is whoever has the shortest distance. If there are two (or more) players with the exact same shortest distance, the program instead gives an error message saying no winner could be chosen. In this example run, there were 28 participants, and the winner was Bugmo1207. Sadly for Bugmo1207, winning the example round doesn't count for anything. Well, just to make sure the random number generator is fair, I ran tests on it (picking several millions of numbers between 0 and 100), and it picked the numbers 0 and 100 just as often as it picked the all of others. In other words, the number 1 is just as likely to be picked as the others are.
No. That was an example drawing, and the real drawings (of which there will be 10) will be taking place on Saturday. And they will be taking place in the non-discussion thread.
So if we pick 3 numbers and it comes up with 3 random numbers, then how do you win? Do you add up all the numbers and see who is the closest, or do you see who is the closest to each number?
