  1. Aikar saying quick before the update comes out means nothing. We need to wait for the actual update to be released for an accurate time window.

  2. Because the release date has come out, Aikar and the rest of the developers have time to plan out what parts they will work on first. This could make it go by faster :3

  3. Plus, Spigot is planning early on to update their plugin service to 1.9, rather than taking months after 1.8's release.

    So, two of the three creators got us covered now.
    We just have to wait on Akair and the EMC developers then.
