   Does it really? I just recently plopped extra RAM in 3 HP laptops, and it worked just fine with a different brand of RAM.

   We removed the original RAM for one of the laptops and it booted just fine. Sucks that that wasn't the case for you.

   Are you sure it's inserted properly? Sometimes a reseat (or two) can help. It'll also sometimes have to think for a bit, so leaving it up for a few minutes may be necessary.
