i dont know if its true but someone once told me they do that in laptops to prevent you from upgrading the pieces so that if you want a better laptop you have to buy a whole new one
Man, I need the hard drive out of it but I'm sure at this point most anything's toast... I did get the disk drive out and stole back the backup disc that got trapped when it stopped working, though. I'm glad for that being as easy as unscrew the thing and slide out the drive then unscrew the top of the drive and bam you're in.
Opened my laptop last weekend to install an SSD into it. 7 screws, a lot of metal clips, and a trip to Home Depot later, got it installed. Also almost stabbed the battery...
To be fair though, the battery is at the front of the laptop near the touchpad but the since the charging port is on the side at the back, I thought that the battery would be near that.
Also what jewel said is correct. Most laptops are not "user-serviceable" so they are meant to be only opened by the company's repair people should they need to be.
