the bow and arrow is a good idea actually, although the spear was easier to learn. Archery is a tough skill, yet poking with a spear only takes a few hours of dedicated practice to get good at.
what are you counting as a weapon because I'm pretty sure nuclear bombs and chlorine gas (France and Germany are best friends now yet France still has vast areas of land that the Germans gassed in WW1 that will never be able to be lived in, seems effective) beat guns and spears by an order of several magnitudes
Nuclear bombs right now are mainly used as threat weapons, everyone knows that using one would mean world destruction, and that's exactly why only 2 have ever been used in warfare. Spears have been around since Prehistory, meaning that they have never been ineffective at their job... Until recently of course.
but a weapon/tool that has been around and used effectively for thousands of years and still is used today (as a tool mostly) shows how simple and deadly they were. Nuclear warfare was only a problem since WW2, pikes and spears before that and guns were the most feared, and for a very long time. Feared even though it's literally a stick with a pointed tip at the end.
Even though muskets were widely used in the 18th century, the bayonet was more feared, even though guns had still existed, even before the musket! Spears can also be used for fishing and other things.
