No online multiplayer like that is fine. But have it as an option for players. Instead of making that the core of the game pretty much. I can't speak for all fans, but I'm pretty sure most people, me included, asked for co-op style multiplayer. Not a massive online multiplayer world styled like Rust.

Where everyone can attack you if they wish and eventually, if they manage to, acquire nuclear launch codes to blow up your entire base that you could have spent hours working on. Sure you can still play with friends. But it's more pvp focused multiplayer now.

And I'd be lying if I was disappointed at there being no singleplayer of any real kind. There's no story, no real quests for or with npc's that you can do alone in a singleplayer game or co-op with friends. Just an online pvp world.

Yea tbh, I hate the movement toward every game being MMORPG... It's annoying there's no opt-out

Funny thing is, Bethesda itself talked about how the singleplayer genre is still extremely popular and that they still support the idea of singleplayer. Then they hand us Fallout 76. A game which ignores what they said and a game that goes against what fans really wanted. A Fallout game to finally play co-op with your friends on and just have a great time.

Keep in mind the world map has 20-30 players in it, it's six times as large as Fallout 4's map, with quests that operate much in the same way as a regular single player quest, so it essentially is a co-op game.

30 players in a massive map like that can certainly avoid eachother and you can play with a friendly squad just fine.

You know for a fact there will always be someone who runs around solely to kill people and wreck their stuff. And the "quests" don't really matter. They're just generic things that you stumble across in the world. There's no NPC's giving some kind of meaningful quest. And size of a map doesn't mean much. I've been all over Fallout 4's map. And yet I was still pretty bored half the time.

And some people don't want to have to ever worry about you and your friend or friends running into other players who may or may not attack them. Or just may nuke your base just because they feel like it. Destroying all your stuff without being able to prevent it. I'd rather play on the Fallout 4 map with all the quests and stuff available. But able to play with some friends. Than play 76.

At least the fires of the wreck that is 76 will keep some of us warm through the winter.
