it's hurtful to many people, and now I'm worried that I'll become a victim of it too and/or that some people I interact with will leave due to this behavior. I've tried speaking up multiple times and will continue to do so, and I know staff are very family- and minority-friendly, but that appears to just not be enough for a few people (including someone I interact with often here on EMC).
The world really can be a hostile place, but I don't want that on EMC or following anyone in particular around. In fact, I wish the world wasn't a hostile place. I want to focus on the positive people who actually matter, and celebrate, accept, and support everyone for their differences, but hatred and intolerance ruin anyone who wants that. :(
I just want everyone to get along. Please don't think that you're guilty just because I read someone's thread, misunderstood, and PM'd you while you accept, but not necessarily support, LGBT people. However, if you have actually bullied and not accepted people based on their race, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, etc. then that's a different story and you need to stop immediately.
It's just human nature unfortunately. And no matter what, not everybody's gonna agree with other people's opinions. I've unfortunately been desensitized to a point where when I see rudeness I just consider it the norm. I still go out of my way to be nice to others, but I'm not surprised when people are rude to me or anyone else
