Everyone told me omg no dood i3 6100 > any AMD FX. Truth is those threads come in clutch for the price, though the i3's architecture certainly gives it a major boost where other dual cores would choke.
I just got a FX because i didnt want to spend more on a new mobo and cpu. I've had a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P for a few months, and it works great. A friend told me to go for a i3 6100 too.I didnt want to go with an Intel because of the same reason I already said. Even if I could find a cheapo board, It probably wouldn't have the same features a more expensive motherboard would have.
Yeah, but my 8350 (at stock speeds mind you) only gets outperformed by an i3 down to single core ; which is to be expected honestly. And if I got that 8350 at 120 and I could get the i3 at 120, should I spend more on a nice motherboard and RAM or go with what I had, ya know?
Plus I didn't mention that it crushed the i3 6100 post overclock (5.4 GHz)
Same thing here. My highest oc was 4.85ghz before i got some stability issues. It wasnt cooling or power, ny board isnt too good for overclocking. Planning on upgrading to a MSI or Asus 990 board. Hopefully one with leds on it. My pc is starting to get led herpes. :P
I wouldn't buy AM3+ MSI boards, I have heard plenty of them were bad quality
Also you should go for 990FX chipset. I dunno how cheap they are but my brother is running on Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 and an 8350 that I tuned to 5 GHz for him no problem. It cost $70 when we got it, could have changed. Also I assume you have an ATX case as no 9 series chipsets are supported for MATX or lower as far as I know...
Was actually thinking about a Gigabyte 990, same reason you said. As for the case, I got a S340, I think it'll fit for sure. Also going to get a Corsair h100i V2, my H60 isnt holding too well with a 8120.
990FXA UD3 R5 is the cheapest 990FX motherboard out there, better than the one my bro has audio wise, otherwise it's mostly the same. I did note some people said it was hard to push 8 core Cpus past 4.6 GHz because of the VRMs though.
It's not the GHz its the voltage needed to power those so if you were planning on capping four with an 8120 then you probably need more voltage. I dunno if/how zambezi overclocks versus vishera.
