This is a good thing to address, I can think of at least four veterans from SMP3 who lost their res's over the holidays. Sad to see such nice builds replaced by signs or dirt huts. But glad there is now something in place to keep it more reasonable.
I was floored to see Areokill's place gone... 34 days derelict... Pretty sad, that was a beautiful place.
well every server is now =P The way I have auto rotation set up it should keep every server evenly distributed now. .... and were hitting huge numbers for new members:
Awesome, Thanks aikar! any idea on when the force claiming will be implemented? For now should we contact don't staff to unclaimed it?
I agree with others that there should be some sort of safety for players that have claimed a residence for an extended period of time and are active players like myself. Maybe after one year you earn 60 days before derelict. There was a time I went on hiatus because I moved and didn't have internets, I think I was gone for about 50 days and I just lucked out that no one claimed my res. I was incredibly thankful but at the same time terribly worried. Now we can't luck out like that.. Or if it were possible; maybe after 6 months* or a year or so of claiming that res it could be backed up once a month so that if it does get erased after 30 days of no activity it can be copied back to a different residence at one of it's backed up states. Or maybe create the backup after the 30 days of no activity while freeing the residence up simultaneously. (Obviously not for every single new player. Only for people with constant activity)
I agree, wish this would have been implemented earlier because some of the best reses were lost to new players who left after one day
I wish we did too, but trying to get things done as fast as I can. @JHeartBreak - It's actually the goal to back up EVERY residence that goes derelict (but maybe some minimum time required on EMC to save us from saving tons of empty res's) That way when any player comes back they could always have the res restored... It's just so many things to do, so little bandwidth.
This is a bit interesting. For me lately iv been busy with work, and life to make time play a lot. But since the voting thing I have been enjoying not worrying to much about losing my res (and all my valuables) for not playing consistently. One of the things I disliked immensely that happened so often especially around my res was people were claiming the res's and either building a dirt hut or nothing then just stopped coming on so I had a nice eye sore for a month. And that had been going on consistently since I claimed my res way back over a year ago or so. I miss the old neighborhood with the huge mansion, the Asian temple, and the other cool builds like the huge stone brick castle that was near by when I started building. This did get me a bit worried that maybe you were going away with voting to allow you to keep your res or something.
This sounds like it could lead to a way to move res' from one place to another and across servers. Like items in /vault.
Couldn't this be solved simply by stopping the policy of having every new player who makes it through the tutorial auto-claim a res? At this point given that the tutorial is just a walk down a hallway it's not like the numbers you're seeing of new players is really accurate. Sure it looks pretty but it's not like you're getting that many valuable members of the community joining.
We already allow same-server res moves, but yes this system would then allow cross-server res moves too.
Uno problemo, on smp9, the reses of BugsyWPfeiffer, are not, as far as I know, reseted. Also, the res of doodle4227119, is still un-reseted.
